    Hi

My screen is officially dead. The computer is fine though. So... I want to use it as a desktop replacement. The thing is, that when I connect the VGA cable, I get no signal. I think I am suppose to change something in my Geforce settings, or at least do something so that windows will know that I have connected another monitor through the VGA port.

    But - i can't see anything (-:

    HELP

I would play with the BIOS (i was told once that there might be a way to make the pc monitor the default one - is this even true?) but again - i can't see anything.

So - is there a way to make the pc monitor light up right from the start?

Hmmm, the only way to make it work through the start is to configure it via the BIOS and tell the laptop to use the external VGA instead of the LCD.

Can you toggle using FN+F7 keys to switch the monitor settings around when it is on?

    Thank you for replying.

I actually tried that, and there seems to be some sort of response - but no. It does not work.

It seems to be like one of those problems that are easy to fix, but you find yourself lost.

I thought about maybe trying to find some pics of the BIOS online, and trying to do the process blind. You know what I mean? Just hit the right keyboard strokes, without actually seeing what's going on. But I could not find a single helpful pic or video.

    Any other thought?

The machine displays something at boot (the Lenovo logo), and allows you to get in BIOS via the LCD or external monitor via the VGA connector?

close the LCD and use external keyboard and mouse, see whether that helps to get the vga out working.

THANK YOU BOTH for your answers.

I thought you hit the mark there, but I just tried it and it seems that even closing the lid won't do the trick. :(

Perhaps knowing the right keystrokes will do the trick? I need someone with the same computer to help me do it blind. Unless there are any other suggestions that you can think of :)

    THANKS

You didn't answer my question so let me repeat it. Are you able to see information during the hardware POST process? In other words, you are seeing something right when you power on the machine but not after Windows flips to a higher resolution mode?

If that is true, then you likely have a Windows driver issue and it's not a hardware issue. That would be good news.

I assume this is a Lenovo laptop. What model is it? Have you recently tried to upgrade the video driver?

Sorry for not answering. NO, the LCD is DEAD. The computer is fine (I know this because I am the one that killed the LCD, and I know how i did. Stupid me, trying to fix something else, I managed to break the LCD connectors, and I suspect that the part I broke isn't replaceable separately, but is a part of the LCD itself - meaning I need a new LCD in order to fix the problem, and I just don't want to buy a new one, and prefer using my laptop as a desktop).

So no - no boot sequence.

THANKS AGAIN (still hoping someone will find a way to help me)

Ah. Now it makes more sense.

I guess I am not surprised the FN+F7 toggle to VGA didn't work. What a shame. Sounds like it's time to buy a replacement LCD if your model is still worth the trouble.

    Good luck.

    Thanks

Is there maybe a cable that converts the motherboard display output to VGA? such thing exists?
