I have a Lenovo Think Pad R60, windows xp sp2. due to a power failure, the laptop switched off and is not able to load windows..

Although it has rescue and recovery to restore only windows os files from a backup, I did not want to use it as then all software would have to be reinstalled, so i tht there may be some boot.ini prob which after fxing I would be able to load windows.

I opened the recovery console did fixboot fixmbr bootcfg etc..but still no effect.

Now the blue thinkvantage button has stopped working and it shows startup interrupt menu with 3 options- none for rescue and recovery. so now neither can I log onto windows nor can I access r&r.

I can only access xp recovery console from cd rom..pls help.
    how do I access rescue&recov?

Going to need to use restore CD's if you have them otherwise you may have to call Lenovo and order them. I'm not so good with messing with boot configs so this is the best advice I can give you.

If you have any XP disc, you can boot off of it and press 'R' to enter the Microsoft recovery option there, after which you might be able to repair the XP installation you currently have.

Alternatively, you can burn a Linux CD which will boot easily into a very simple linux environment and let you copy everything out of your hard drive that you'd like to keep.

is there any way I can enter command prompt and run exe files??

as far as I know, using a Vista/win 7 installation disc is the only way to get into a command prompt before installing-- however I don't think it'll work with windows xp. I might be wrong about that, I haven't tried that myself.

Not sure about how to get your Lenovo Recovery back up.
