Ok, the date is March 3rd, 2008:

Earlier in the afternoon, at around 4:00 pm, I called the Lenovo Support line and asked them to cancel the order I had made on Feb 28th, 2008. Now, the estimated ship date was March 18th, but I had heard that (more recently) people were getting their notebooks made in like 4 days so I knew I had to act soon. I made the call, spoke with two nice representatives and they said they would send the cancellation over to the warehouse (or wherever the thinkpads are made)...

I asked them if I could expect to see the cancellation, but they said there were no guarantees.

Well, later, a couple of minutes ago (8:40 pm) I checked the status and it reads: "Status: Shipped on 03/03/2008". Ok!! Now what do I do? I asked to cancel but it's not canceled, apparently. Is there a chance that it might NOT have shipped? I've heard all about Lenovo's horrible system of online orders and stuff and I hope this is the case because once I get it, I don't intend to ship it back, really. Is there any way to turn around the system?

That sux...I've never heard of an order that was cancelled that didn't end up being shipped no matter what anyone has done to get it cancelled. Just don't open the box when its shipped and call Lenovo for an RMA. You shouldn't be charged anything.

Oh trust me. There are worser horror stories surrounding all of Lenovo's BS. That's the reason I got scared away from them and canceled my order. Let me outline it for u, perhaps, so u can make a good decision...

1... In 2007, around march or something, Lenovo had a horrible problem with their online order system. And for a long time thenafter (from innumerable reports, almost up to November of that same year) the orders were being processed and backlogged because of a 2 week period where there was complete chaos. Orders were being suspended and pushed back for 2 weeks to 4 weeks at a time, often more than once, resulting in an order that was (the most common result :) 10+ weeks after the original ship time. Some people had even worse an experience though. Go look around; there are PLENTY of threads regarding this issue.

2... Solectron. When u order the basic warranty, and something goes wrong with ur Thinkpad, you send it to Solectron. Now. This is not a company, as Lenovo wants u to believe, but it is actually a thief that goes against all laws of commerce and customer service regarding warranties and how they are handled. A warranty works as:

    1) You send in a product.
    2) Corrections/fixes are made.
    3) It is sent back.

All within normally a week or so. Lenovo used to have even faster times but, alas... This is what Solectron does:

    1) You send it in.
    2) 3 - 5 weeks pass without a single sign. You call in once or twice, but ur calls are ignored thenafter. The managers of Solectron are actively ignoring you and there is nothing u can do about it, really.
    3) It is sent back in a worser condition:
    a. damaged and sent back.
    b. sent back untouched.
    c. damaged, not sent back, but with an invoice that charges around $800 for a fix.
    4) I mean come on, WTH!!?

Oh and I'd like to ask:

Is an item immediately trackable after it reads 'shipped'?? Because it may be that I can't track my item BECAUSE it got stopped before it was shipped, even though the website still reads shipped.

I had a similar thing happened and I just called for an RMA number after I received the computer. When I called they were able to see that I had requested the order to be cancelled. I received a prepaid UPS shipping label to send it back for a full refund. Kind of a hassle but at least they were good about handling it properly.

I beg you not to take offense or get mad, but the words "worser" and "thenafter" are not words. You might want to stop using them, especially if you're still a student in grade school or university. You had some good information, but it was very difficult to follow.

I beg you not to take offense but:

First of all, I don't care.
Secondly, this information is not for you.
It is for those who care about it and have an intention to buy, namely, the person I was responding to.

I doubt very much you intend to buy.
And you are doing absolutely nothing to benefit those who do.

And I hope you're not one of those guys who tries to add formality and cliche to their writing. I hate when people use phrases like "I beg you not..." or whatever.
    That just doesn't work.
Plus, it ruins otherwise-perfectly-good writing that might have had potential to be something decent.

But, point is, your post contributes nothing and has absolutely no purpose. I did not ask for a grammar lesson.

When you order from Lenovo you better be sure you really want it. Like others have said, just wait till it arrives then request an RMA. Also, there is no Solectron; they were bought out by Flextronics, which Dell, HP and others use for mail in repair....and they do suck!
