You can of course buy it directly from Lenovo. If the pricing proves to be too high as it might, I'd suggest looking on eBay. The marketplace forum on ThinkPads.com is another good option.

If you happen to choose to buy the fan from IBM/Lenovo retail store ( here). Take note of the system type number under your x200 (an example would be 2024-CTO) and look ( here) for the corresponding fan assembly to that number (listed under "FRU"). Copy the "FRU no." corresponding to your system type number and go back to the IBM/Lenovo retail store ( here) and add your item to the shopping cart (please check if its the right product) to check the manufacturer's price.

It may not be that the fan needs replacements. Maybe the contact between the CPU die and the heatsink isn't as good as originally and all you need is to repaste and put it on properly.

Please download the HMM (hardware maintenance manual) PDF from the Lenovo website and also watch the service training videos if you need examples of disassembly. Keep good track of screw locations. My method is crude but I use paper and draw a section of the laptop with circles denoting screws. I then push the screws through the paper as a way of keeping tabs on screw placement.

Regardless the method has worked for me through disassembly of several TPs. There may be videos on youtube also that you might check for also. IME repasting is very good conditioning for an older laptop as the factory paste might be somewhat dried after a couple of years. If you are inclined here is a thread in which I helped guide a fellow member through an X200 fan replacement.

    Good luck :)
