Hey guys, have a x220 and about to buy a mini-dock series 3 since I'm using it to replace my desktop.

But since the x220 already run kind of hot, will it be a problem w/ the dock? I wouldn't even be able to put a cooling pad underneath to reduce the temps :(

Sorry man, there's soo many x220 threads and I don't have one so I've been ignoring a lot of the traffic.

Regarding the question, I don't find that the dock negatively effects performance and temps of any of my machines. I don't think the x220 will be any different.

I always worry about running the machine 8-5 with the lid closed, but after doing it for years on a variety of models and generations, I've stopped worrying about it.

If you are going to do some gaming, encoding, or something else that's going to tax the system, open the lid and let it breath a little better. But don't fret. The intakes aren't blocked and the exhaust works well, too.

Thanks man, I actually just got the dock yesterday, and set it up last night.

I'm not sure where the intake on the x220 is, but the exhaust is right next to the lock and power button "block" on the left side. It doesn't touch the dock, but there's maybe a millimeter of space in between, so I'm sure it blocks some of the exhaust.

Temp wise my CPU temp generally went up a few degrees across the board. It's too bad that I can't use the dock with a laptop cooling pad, would've really liked that :(
