My notebook has been running real hot as of late. Its so bad right now that i cant even game without undervolting. Can the t500 chasis really able to handle this cpu? I remember that when i removed the hsf, i could have sworn there was a thermal paste btw the hsf and cpu. Right now i just have as5 for my cpu, gpu an chipset. This heat problem is getting pretty bad. According to throttle stop, ive seen my temps hit 90c. I cant really monitor the gpu but im convinced its overheating as well. I did try gpuz and it reported a max gpu temp of 91c. Im at a loss here... Finding it real difficult to game. Ive also tried several techiques and methods of applying as5 which none really made a difference. Fyi, my fan and vents are spotless. Thanks ahead for the input.

Didn't you have a thread awhile back on this? T9900 though "35 watt TDP" is actually closer to 44 watt Extreme CPU TDP. Why not go down to a T9600, it'll run cooler and is only ~200 MHz slower. And officially T9600 is the fastest CPU offered for T400/T500, anything higher and Lenovo might have needed to redesign the heatsink. Also that would cut into the W5x0 series market. If you are really interested in a fast Core 2 Duo/Quad, sell your T500 and get a W500/W700. ;)

The W500 and T500 have the same heat sink, I believe. Also, the W500 did not support quad cores, and I don't believe it came stock from Lenovo with processors faster than the T9600, so it'd have the same problems. Only from the W510 generation were quad core CPUs available.

I'd consider a repaste with something else then. Maybe the heatsink pipes are bad?

You should be undervolting (note: not underclocking) your CPU regardless.

Oh Ok. I did not know that the fastest cpu lenovo offered for the T500/W500 was the T9600. I guess undervolt during gaming is my only option at this point. I have it at 1.0875volts.

i have heat issues with the T9600. i just reinstalled windows so i let windows update run, and the CPU temp was 81C when i opened tpfancontrol.

it's kind of ridiculous you're required to undervolt so the processor runs cooler and doesn't throttle. i haven't used my W500 much so i doubt there is a lot of dust in the heatsink.
