I recently sent my Thinkpad back to IBM to fix a small problem with the fan (it was making a high pitch noise). I just got it back today and notice that the GPU is running much hotter than it used to. It used to run between 66C and 72C and it is now running at 76-77C almost all the time according to TP Fan Control. I have no idea why this would be. They did say that they updated the BIOS, could this have caused the temperature rise? FYI I have a T60 15' with the ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 - 256 MB.

Under your power management, set to maximum battery life(while on AC power). Then tell me if there is any temp. changes.
Also you could double check the temp. using RightMark CPU Clock Utility. You could get it here

I have the exact same problem too. I have a brand new T60P (well it was brand new a couple of monthos ago) with the firegl videocard.

Everytime I play World Of Warcraft, for more than half an hour, the screen begins to freeze for about 2 seconds before everything returns to normal. At this time, I can physically touch the top left area of the keyboard and it feels burning hot. A warning icon appears on the bottom right hand portion of my taskbar saying that the ATI driver has failed but was sucessfully restarted.

    Any soultions to this problem?

I remember a bios update that did list "improves GPU temperatures" as one of the improvements. Sorry but I really don't think I can offer more help then that, although i did upgrade to that bios about ~1 month ago, maybe a bit more.
