I just upgraded my system from xp to vista. I did not go download any drivers from the lenovo website except for the graphic driver. Now when I tried listening to music with the headphone, the sound was still coming out from the speaker. I then tried installing the lenovo driver, ADI SoundMAX High Definition audio driver, an error message popped up during the setup saying that it could not find the corresponding hardware. This is the only audio driver I could find on the lenovo website that is for windows vista. Now what do I do?

Uninstall any other sound drivers that are installed, and then try and install the drivers from the Lenovo website again. Did you uninstall the previous drivers last time?

Now the problem has become that the computer does not automatically switch to headphone output, I have to change it manually by clicking on the sound icon at bottom right corner. The lenovo driver simply won't install, even after I removed the current default driver. So is there a way to make it go into headphone output automatically whenever I plug in a headphone?

uninstall the driver, restart and use system update

make sure you select the drivers, install, restart and then install the audio features under optional tab after running system update again

another restart and you should be good.

By system update, do you mean the one offered by Lenovo or Windows Update?

Also, do I only uninstall the drivers through Device Manager or do I also delete the driver files?
    Thanks.

So far I just uninstalled the drivers, but System Update didn't find anything other than PC-Doctor, ThinkVantage Client Security Solution, and ThinkVantage Migration Assistant.

uninstall via program files. if its not there, then uninstall via device manager.

you can delete the files you downloaded to install the drivers
