Having to choose among T410 and X201

I'm finally have to choose my nex business lappy among these two different size notebooks:

    - Lenovo T410, WXGA, i5-M520 4 Gb of ram hd 250 Gb (430 euro) (Battery is new)
    - Lenovo X201, WXGA, i5-M560 4 Gb of ram hd 160 Gb (400 euro) (Full charged the battery last 3.5 hours)

The only, much less expensive alternative that comes around 300 euro, could be a Lenovo T400 with a P8400 and the same amount of ram and hard disk size.

The most important factors to me are:

    - keyboard and overall build quality
    - touchpad usability
    - display quality
    - battery life
    - portability

To same extent I'd like to try the small X201 while for other aspects I think that T410 or T400 could be more usable for a long time.

I'll use the notebook (indoor) only in a business oriented manner:
web browsing, sheet writing, java/c/web programming (no gaming, no graphics)

Can You give some insights useful to let me make the "right" choice for my needs ?

    Thanks, Stefano.

If the T400 has a WXGA+ LCD and you'd like the extra resolution, that's what I'd get. The X201 will offer better portability, but the small touch pad is something to keep in mind.

The alternative is not a T400 but a T410 with warranty up to 07/2013 and a battery six cells at 100%.

One more expensive option (420 euro) is this:
    - Lenovo X220, i5 -2520, RAM 6 GB, hd 150 Gb

While one less expensive option (300 euro) option is this
    - Lenovo X200, P8600, RAM 4 Gb, hd 250 Gb

The X220 seems to be an average deal.
The problem for the X200, from my pov, is the lack of trackpad.

If you want a trackpad, you should not get the X200 unless you're willing to commit to using the stick. Personally, I like the stick and prefer the trackpadless palm rest aesthetic. The X220 touch pad is average.

    Yes.

I'm wondering that the lack of touchpad could be really a problem for me.

In this case the sole alternative that I can found (For less or more the same price) are two HP 2530P (One is new and comes at 400 euro, one is an ex-demo and comes at 320 euro).
    Both have the same configuration:
    - Intel core 2 duo L9400, 2 Gb of Ram, Hard disk 120Gb, Win 7 pro

Considering the price/quality ratio of above products and their "durability" which are the more interesting "deals" ?

    thks, Stefano.

    No opionions about this choice.

I've to decide in a few days and summarizing... this is the situation:

    - Lenovo X201 (SECOND HAND) WXGA, i5-M560, RAM 4 Gb, hd 160 Gb (400 euro) (Full charged the battery last 3.5 hours)
    - Lenovo X220 (NEW) i5 -2520, RAM 6 GB, hd 150 Gb (450 euro)
    - Hp 2530P (NEW) L9400, RAM2 Gb, hd 120Gb (400 euro)
    - Hp 2530P (SECOND HAND) L9400, RAM2 Gb, hd 120Gb (330 euro)
    - Lenovo T400 (SECOND HAND) P8400, RAM 4 Gb, hd 120 Gb (300 euro)

(T410 is no more available... and for that price I'd prefer go with X220)

All second hand notebooks are in really good/optimal conditions and the supplied battery at approx. 80% of its life

Can Ypu help me to make a "correct" choice ?

    thks

If I were you, I would "correctly" choose the new X220.

    In bocca al lupo!

X220 out of all of those, but make sure it has the IPS screen.

The IPS screen would be nice, but is definitely not a deal breaker.

At this point I've two price target products.

At ~400 euro the X220 seems to be the best choice considering the cpu version and that it is really new.

At ~280/300 euro the choice is so among T400 (P8XXX, warranty expires on 02/2013) and 2530P (L9400) and in this case I don't know if it's better to give priority to portability or to display quality and performance.

Apart performance the build quality of T400 and 2530P could be considered on the same plan or there is a definitive winner under this aspect ?

The 2530p uses 1.8" drives AFAIK. They're more expensive and there aren't so many models as 2.5" drives. It can become an issue if you want/need to upgrade the drive in the future

I say stick to the T400 (I'd ever take a Thinkpad before an HP but that's just me) :hi2:

Waiting for other offers about T410 the choice is now restricted to only two models:

    - Lenovo X220 i5-2520 NEW (400 euro)
    - Lenovo T400 P8400 EX-DEMO (240 euro)

It's only a matter of money... and for now I've not yet decided...

I've seen that statement for, like, 3 weeks now.

    And that exclamation, too. :)

As I said, 4 days ago.

    Well then, pick the T400.

I'm only undecided to which one can be the considered quality/price ratio best deal.

    At the end I've got a T420.
For the same price of a T400.
    Or said... 250 euro.
Good conditions, 9 cell battery and 1 year of remaining warranty.

I was really tempted to buy the new (But without battery) X220 for just 380 euro but its price was a little too high for my shabby budget.

I'd really like to know too. I mean, 400€ for an X220 is normal, but 250€ for a T420 in good condition? I'd buy one right away for that price!

Are You sure that 400 euro for a NEW x220 is "normal".
    I don' think.

The T420 is a second-hand laptop but in really good conditions and 1 year of warranty.

When I've decided for the T420... it was no more available and now... I've to choose buying the aboce X220 or change my options and get one among Asus U30SD and Toshiba L730.
Both are new, full warranty and come at 390 euro.

But I don't know if the quality can be compared to that of Lenovo/HP...

Are you sure 250€ is normal for a T420?

A second-hand T420 will usually set you back by 1000€, depending on the config you might also get away with less.

A new X220 will cost you about 800-900€. I have seen used X220's for 450€.

Can you please answer the question? Where are these offers from?

Both are from private, not (online) shop.

THe T420 comes has an ex-demo product while X220 has been imported and never used by the buyer.

    (Both in Italy)

    Why not ?
This can be true for You but in generale this could be false.

Usually I prefer business notebooks onlty for their superior build quality and great keyboards, mainly speaking of lenovo and ho products.\
For other aspects I don't need other particular specs that cannot be offered by a consumer products just like by a business one.

So, to my respects, yes, business and consumer can be really compard.

Having lost the option to get the T420 it remains to me ro decide among X220 or one of the two "consumer" notebooks, that come with full warranty at a slight less price.

But I reallty have no idea hoiw them can be valued under keyboard and overall build quality.

This is the reason fo my question ?

I never said X220 is a bargain and T420 not.

Otherwise I'd not choose tht T420.

Is it not clear to You ?

In Italy the cost, in i5 second generation configuration, aorund the same price: 1000 euro.

So, now, let me understand why a SECOND HAND T420 for 240 euro is a bargain while a smaller NEW X220 is a normal buy, please.

Wouldn't the shop seller be stupid if he were to sell a used T420 for only 250€? He'd make huge losses UNLESS its in a really bad shape, like a broken Palmrest and Basecover and a defective screen. Only then could I Imagine such prices.

The seller has received that lappy form his company and so it make non sense telling of "money loss".

And however this is not the topic subject.

At last I've got the X220.

It is really a great product.
The particular type of touchpad needs a little of usage to get confidence with it but seems nont so bad.

The lap is very compact and light.
The keyboard seems at a good level although until now I prefer the one of my old HP.

All considered, even if I spent a little more of my initial budget, I think to have made a good deal.
