Hate keyboard on T510, are the newer ones just as bad?

    Hi all,

I really hate the keyboard on my 1 year old T510. I've already replaced it once, and will again once I find the time to call Lenovo for a replacement. The keys stick, the most used ones (the up, back and down arrows) feel and sound loose. Really really a truly bad experience.

I love the keyboard on my 4 year old T60, and I am *still* a Lenovo loyalist, but this latest keyboard is wearing on me.

Can anyone please comment on the recently produced keyboards? I'm considering a new Lappie, or possibly a new desktop.

    Thanks!

I have a W500 and a T520, and they both have wonderful keyboards. Maybe you have a lemon? - replace it.

I've used the keyboards on my T500, X120e, and my dad's new X220 (which is identical to that of the T520 in terms of key design), and haven't had problems with any. In fact, I like the X220's keyboard the most, with its larger Del key and useful microphone mute button.

Follow through with the replacement, and maybe take note of the manufacturer (historically, Lenovo has used NMB, Chicony, and Alps as the three keyboard suppliers). Also, if you happen to eat in front of your laptop, try to avoid doing so--that's a sure-fire way to get sticky keys!

I know the T410 and find it to be excellent, very similar in fact to the new X220. If you hate the T510 keyboard so much I doubt that you will like the new ones much more.

Most used ones? The arrow keys? These days? :)

Anyhow, on my T510, I put a few small pieces of masking tapes on the keyboard tray (below) at the top-right and bottom-right corners. The keys in those areas no longer feel and sound loose.

I've used the T410/T420 which T520 uses the same keyboard and I do not like the keyboard at all. The feel is totally different. I also don't like the bumps on the touchpad (they wear out significantly faster).

I like the T400 and earlier keyboard (T60/T61). Palmrest also feels different.

While I love my x200s the t400 is the best feeling of the two, but that may be because I have the t400 very well broken in. I must admit Im not liking the changing of key layouts through the generations. Switching between my x200s and t400 is 100% transparent and I love that VERY much! As both keyboards are exactly the same layout and size.

I like both the new (T420, etc.) and old styles, for entirely different reasons. I like the softer key feel and "clickier" activation of the T60-series keyboards. I like the shorter travel and quieter sound of the later keyboards.

Then again, I'm an oddball who uses mechanical keyboards on his desk, so what do I know? :D

Personally, I have found that the keyboard of my R400 is very good. Also, I got the keyboard of my X201 replaced, which now feels as good. I did try out a friend's T420 recently and found that there seemed to be a slight difference - for the worse....take this with a pinch of salt because I did not spend too much time with it...just first and fleeting arrangements.
