My order has been pushed back to nearly 2 months now and I see others on the Lenovo board are having the same delays. Just wondering if anyone has received the Y730.
-
-
I ordered my Y730 on 9/21/2008 and it now has a ESD of 10/21/2008, but this will be it's third delay. If they push it back any further I'm going to call them up and demand for compensation.
-
Bump, Still would like to know if anyone received their Y730 yet or has any news pertaining to why they have delayed shipments for at least 1months+. Thank you
-
I put in an order for a Y730 yesterday and have been given a ship date of 10/28. Based on what you guys are saying, I'm probably looking at middle of Nov realistically.
Todd, what's your estimated ship date now? -
My estimated shipping date is still 10/24. Hopefully between now and then they will get over whatever shortages they have with parts and get them moving.
Oh and since I didn't post my original dates in this thread.
ordered 9/5 with original est. ship date as 10/3 . on 10/4 it changed to 10/24 ... -
Looks like Lenovo have ramped up their supplys on the Y730. Mark_Lenovo said they will start shipping out after 10/20/08. So this will mean that new orders and old orders will arrive on the same ship.
Did anyone use the "USPTIDEAPAD10" coupon? I thought it was for free shipping but it charged me $20 for Ground. -
Lenovo has reduced their prices on the lowest two models of the Y730 line. Check out their website and make a price quote so that once your laptop ships, you can get it price matched.
-
I ordered mine on 09/05/2008 when they were haveing the Labor day sale. It was estimated to be ready 10/3. I said fine. Then the date was pushed back to 10/24. When I called lenovo they said it was because of a battery shortage and said they would have it expedited and give me a 50 credit. Well credit has not showed up yet and the date has been pushed back to the 27th. I also found out that expediting means nothing because there are no y730 in the warehouse and they are not scheduled to be there until 10/24.
I'm gald you guys are here. Misery loves company. -
-
Did you order online? Weird because when i use the coupon or any other coupon, it would take of the percentage but not the shipping. I just tried to make a quote right now, and the same problem persists.
-
When I ordered I used the "USPTIDEAPAD10" coupon and the student discount. My online invoice says s&h are zero.
-
I ordered online.
-
I got some new info from lenovo.
Your issue with the shipping back order on your machine has been forwarded
to me for assistance. There has been a significant backlog on IdeaPads but
my sources tell me they are starting to ship this week. To this end, I've
requested the shipping be upgraded to air when it does ship which will help
some. I'll also give you a 10% credit when the unit ships and invoices.
Thanks for your patience.

Lenovo Sales -
Overwhelming demand. Hmm as far as I know one person has a Y730. I would think if there were more we would be seeing reviews pop up around the internet not to mention problems and questions on forums.
They really dropped the ball on this one. Seems like they were nowhere near ready to start selling these machines. -
I Hate Lenovo. They Are Stupid Sob!
-
They seem to be working on a time machine because my new ship date is Oct 3.
-
LOL did you read my post? They are now delaying my order till 11/03, which is not what Mark_Lenovo said about receiving orders by the end of the month. The excuse was battery problems. I'm going to call again tomorrow for compensation, then again on Saturday about the status, and if it doesn't fair well I'm going to cancel. Either way if i don't get confirmation of reciving the laptop before the end of the month I'm going to cancel.
-
I'm sorry to hear that Man. But here is a little hope for you.
I recieved another email from Lenovo as follows:
Thank you for choosing Lenovo!
All or part of your order has shipped. In some instances your order may be
shipped from more than one location, which will result in multiple
notifications. You will only be invoiced for products that have shipped.
Please visit our online status tool to view the latest information on the
status of your order:
so with the upgrade to next air I should be getting it tomorrow.
There's always hope. -
I just checked my email and it says mine has shipped as well.
-
I got an email today that mine has shipped also. I ordered on 10/7, so pretty decent compared with some of the horror stories on here. The status page for my order isn't updated yet but hopefully that will have more info tomorrow.
-
Please post your model, GU? CU?
-
40532CU ordered on 9/05
-
Back in the end of August, I asked the Lenovo folks about configuring Ideapads and they told me that having a limited number of sotck preconfigurations helped keep cost down and allowed them to ship them almost immediately. I somehow don't think my boss would accept their definition of "almost immediately"
-
40532BU. Got the tracking info this morning - shipped out of Greensboro, NC last night.
-
Are they randomly picking whose laptop is going to be shipped out? 10/7? I ordered mine of 9/21 like 3 weeks ahead... Makes me mad at Lenovo
-
Mine shipped from Greensboro NC also so I figure I should get mine Monday since my deliveries come out of Asheville. I live an hour and half north of Asheville and the regular UPS driver gets here around 3-4pm. If it's a different driver they usually just get lost up here in the mountains.

While looking at the Lenovo website and reading the extended warranty.....

Todd have you received your laptop yet? I need a review...
-
I have.
A few basic impressions.
Now I have been using desktops with good speakers for years so I have been spoiled. But the weakest part of the Y730 is the speakers. Subwoofer does something but not impressed.
Next problem the hard drive is partitioned so 250+gb is on C: and 30gb on D: I like to install and store on a partition other than C: and it's said if you repartition C: the one-key backup will not work. So I'm just going to add a second hard drive.
And speaking of the one-key backup I have already used it. Nothing to do with the Y730 but I don't know vista very well and was going in circles with networking so I pressed the button. It worked great and was like turning on the laptop for the first time again.
It's a beautiful laptop. Like other glossy finishes it is a fingerprint, smudge and dust magnet. The screen is GLOSSY but beautiful. If you have light behind you it will reflect. It's blowing snow and in the 20's low 30's here so I haven't used it outside! The Halo is a nice effect. The face recognition seems to work but haven't played around with it too much. I would have rather had fingerprint scanner.
I don't have anything to compare the weight to but it's not much if any heavier than my old old old Dell Latitude 12" screen. oooold
I know it doesn't mean much but the windows experience score is 5.0
5.0 cpu P7350
5.9 memory 3gb ddr3
5.9 graphics ATI HD 3650
5.2 gaming graphics
5.3 hard drive 320gb 5400rpm
Gathering some other benchmark etc programs....
Don't have wireless so can't test that yet.
Pretty quiet but every once in a while the fan will surge when opening a program etc. -
Todd, have you noticed any issues with the keyboard? Mine misses keys (auite a bit) as I type, so a sentence might look like "ths is a tst senence" (makes it a pain to type in passwords). My DVD drive won't open either (green light flashes but it won't pop open).
Otherwise, everything seems pretty good. I've got a wireless g router and have done some "hd" streaming from abc/nbc to test it - worked good on that. I agree with you about the speakers and screen. Haven't tried the face recognition myself. Have you looked at your temps? The processor seems fairly cool (around 40c) but the hard drive seems a little hot in mine (50c). Gets pretty warm on the palm rest. -
I see about the same temps and I have Everquest2 running on it now. Temps in the low 60's with EQ2 running.
I have noticed the dvd drive not opening sometimes. It was with a dvd and sounded like it was having trouble reading the dvd.
My keyboard seems ok and different then the logitech G11 I use on my desktop. Something I would have to get used to.
Hey I can watch my tv in the Y730's screen! reflection. lol I have it set on a plain black background and it's like a dull mirror. -
Veriface is fantastic, but I don't like there still being an area where you can type the password. Veriface needs to be more of a bully. Its dam good when you're in a Borders and don't want anyone getting your password. I have it on its highest security setting and it still recognizes me in less than a second.
Speakers are MEH but really I can't complain, I don't think it's the speakers. Its probably the software. The Halo lighting is pretty but when your screen goes black, you can see where the led is for the logo. Dunno if you should worry about that. All in all, I am happy with it. It has free expansion ports, a beautiful screen, and good security. If they release a sdk for the Halo lighting it will be more usefull than EYE candy.
Cannot get my Vista rating, Vista really sux. -
For those that have received their y730 laptops, can you tell me the measurements of the box that it came in and the approximate weight of the total package?
-
The shipping box is: 10.5 x 15 x 19 inches
The IdeaPad box is: 6 x 14 x 19 inches
The weight from the packing list says: 14.5 lbs (6.58 kg) gross, 13.23 lbs (6 kg) net -
Thanks a lot
-
The problem with the dvd drive not opening is when you push to hard to close. I have done this several times so far and had to pry it open using a fingernail.
I find the dvd drive a bit noisy. -
-
Wow i guess they're making everyone wait 2 months for their Y730 to ship, as my ESD is getting pushed back to 11/19 now.
-
Well that sucks..
You would think they had the shipping issues fixed by now. Maybe it is parts or maybe a combination of trying to fill big retail orders and individual orders. Who knows but it's not helping their image.
I ordered mine on 9/5 received on 10/24. I look on the bottom and says it was built on 10/16 .. So either parts shortages or they are just slow at building them. -
My ESD went back to 11/05 which means hopefully it was built on that day and is ready to ship. Unless I'm from the future...
-
Do only the orange Y730's come with the game zone controls? In their gallery, there are some blue Y730's with game zone, but in their tech pdf file it says only orange ones come with game zone.
I'm really interested in the BU model, but I want the game zone controls and not the keypad. -
That happened with my ESD the day before it shipped. Hope it's a good sign for you !
As far as I've seen only the orange Y730's come with game zone. But only Lenovo knows. -
holy $#*&!!! i ordered an ideapad y730 friday morning (yesterday) and it shipped out friday night/sat morning!!! granted it might still be on a dock till Monday, the fact that it is carrier ready and possibly picked up same day is astonishing. especially with the nightmares of orders past here lol. Here's Hoping for a trouble free system.
EDIT: AAAAH!!!! 99 posts lol i'm not a post whore so I wont make an obligatory 100th post that just says 100. i want to earn the honor lol. so...... close.......... -
lol your sooo lucky! O well at least i got $100 compensation for the delay + the price dropped so the laptop will cost me around the low $800 range. I ordered the 40532GU . I'm glad Lenovo has finally picked up the ball even though it took them 2 months to do it after advertising the product was ready for sale.
Has anyone recieved a Y730 yet?
