I received my W500 with 2G DDR3 1066 memory stick in it which is listed on the label on the box. I did a fresh install of WinXP Pro SP3. I used cpu-z and everest Ultimate to detect the system information. but both showed that the machine has 2G DDR2 667 memory stick under both XP Pro and VISTA ultimate.

What's the problem? Does anyone know?

Thanks in advance for your input!

The current version of CPU-Z doesn't work properly with DDR3 memory and the Penryn processors (it overstates the speed of the processor at idle). I assure you have DDR3, and would suggest you don't worry about it.

I concur about those CPUZ probs. I battery savings mode CPUZ reports my Penryn at 1.5 and according to the Asus Utility and Everest Ultimate, it has 20% of out that. Don't worry about CPUZ.

Thank you for your reply! Wishmaker.

but everest ultimate showed the same thing that the memory is DDR2 667, under both XP pro and VISTA ultimate. I still can't help feeling that they might have given me a faulty memory stick. But I wanna know if any of you guys who have laptops with DDR3 have the same problem.

We all have the same problem. He was referring to Processor speed being correct with Everest rather than DDR3 reporting.

If you want to check the memory chip to see if it is DDR3, I suggest you open up the memory door (usually on the bottom) and look at the label on the chip. My x200 Tablet has a 1066MHz DDR3 Samsung module with a cas latency of 7ns.
