Hi folks,
My girl needs a new computer, as hers has broken down. Irreversible damage. Seriously. lol...
Are there any Thinkpad lovers out there? I could give her my T60p (see sig. for specs), and I'd like to get a W500 or W700/W700ds.
What's the best way to go about getting my hands on a great deal these days? I've done very well with ebay in the past, but not in the recent past, so I don't know if I want to mess with that right now?
Thanks so much...

Moving this to the Lenovo forum, I think you'll get a bit more visibility and help there.
Lenovo.com is frequently issuing coupons, you can use coupon code USPWEEKEND to get 20% off this weekend for instance. -
The problem you may have is your quote in your sig "I want to buy another Thinkpad, but I need IPS...please!? ". Lenovo (nor anyone else for that matter) no longer offers ANY notebooks with IPS screens.
The w700 is supposed to have a very high quality WUXGA display; however it is still TN. Also note that on the w700DS, the 2 panels are of vastly different quality (the main one is superb, the secondary screen is quite poor). The x200 Tablet has a FFS CCFL or an SPVA LED display, but it is almost certainly smaller than you would like.
If you really want IPS, then your best bet is to hold onto your T60P as it was the last workstation notebook ever offered with IPS (the closest available now is Tablets with FFS).
I would then recommend that you get your girl a T400/T500 or possibly an x61/x200/x300 depending on her preference for performance and/or weight. Besides, with the possible exception of the GPU you have very little to gain by upgrading your T60P to a w500/w700. -
crunchdude...you're between a rock and a hard place
You've got a great 15" UXGA screen, unless you want to take a step down in resolution then your stuck with the W500/W700. The W700 is probably a great screen but looks like a completely different beast from the "laptop" perspective. Depending upon how portable you need it to be the size, lack of good battery life and ac adapter could kill it for you (it did for me). The W500 is really the true upgrade from your machine, but you may or may not be happy with the display. Everything else on the W500 is really great and the batteries and ac adapter would be compatible with your T60p which is really a nice advantage to have.
All of that said, your T60p is going to be hard to beat... -
How do you get the coupon code to work?
-
Unfortunately, if you want a IPS-equipped laptop, you have to either keep your t60p, or are willing to perform modification to the X-series laptops.

Has anyone bought a Lenovo Thinkpad (ideally W700 or ds), and for how much?
