    Hey guys,

I recently fixed my dad's old T30. I gave it to my younger brother to use. But I did not ice that the T30 keyboard was literally rock solid, and had no flex of any kind ANYWHERE on the keyboard.

I'm wondering if I replace my T400 keyboard with a T60 (no riddled holes in the plate) I will get a better typing experience.

I know that it will, but I want to hear from people that actually did it themselves and felt real improvement.

    Thanks

The T60/61 keyboards work great. I would recommend buying the NMB keyboard. I don't have the FRU # in front of me and sorry but I don't feel like taking my keyboard off to find it. The T60 and T61 hardware manuals each have a list of FRU numbers and the numbers are different for each generation. I believe the replacement keyboard runs about $30 US, but I wouldn't know because I was one of the lucky people who got a keyboard swap from Mark out of the official Thinkpad forum. It's not a difficult swap, you just have to follow several steps and make sure you don't misplace like 5 screws.

May I ask how old your T400 is? Lenovo in like March '09 redesigned all the T/W/R#00 series Thinkpads to have a support bracket that was supposed to solve the majority of the flex problems. (Insert joke here about making Thinkpads with the flexy "weight saving" keyboards weigh more than the same model with the original solid backplate model). Reports on here seem to be the added bracket works for a lot of people, but not everyone.

I noticed a sharp improvement in typing feel and comfort with my W500. I no longer have weird feelings when I type on the leftside of the keyboard. I remember when I took the swiss cheese keyboard off, the stupid thing was deforming into a U shape!

Interesting... I may be interested in this as well.

Is there also a way to get the bracket installed in earlier-specced T400 systems?

don't think you can. Just get a T60/T61 keyboard, it will fix your problem right up. The perforated keyboard was just too flexible in the wrong places.

I don't know my Thinkpad's Manufacturing date. But I bought less than a month ago (Pre configured, new basically, it was used as a demo unit, it was literally brand new though) for $760 shipped (im also getting $83 cashback). I got a 3 year warranty with it, it has 1034 days left of warranty (In the Lenovo Thinkpad tool).

there is flext in the left and right side. while center is perfect.
