My hard disk is making too much noise.
Seagate 100GB 7200 RPM
Thinkpad T61
Windows Vista Ultimate
Hard disk warranty got expired.
Is it something to do with the 7200 RPM hard drives or Vista? Anyonw in the same boat?
7200 RPM's are supposed to be good, but I have the same problem with two of these

Try a Western Digital Scorpio Black 250GB 7200rpm drive. I put one in my T400 and it's dead silent unless I literally put my ear to the palm rest.

Get a newer 5400rpm 160GB hard if your main concern is noise. Make sure the platter density is 160GB and it will still be just as fast if not faster then your current drive overall. Your current drive is probably 2x50GB platters so its probably not that fast. Maybe a signle 100GB platter.
If you want fast the WD Scorpio Black is fast, but I would get either the 160GB or 320GB since they both have 160GB platters. I have the 320 and it doesn't make any clicking noises during seek, but it has a constant blower like noise. I think it sounds like the laptop fan at about 70-75% speed. -
did you try to search ... cause there are sooo many threads about this issue. I went through it also.
