    I have Thinkpad T61 a 14inch 7662CTO. I currently have 100gb 7200 RPM hdd and want to upgrade it.

I found this online will it work?
    http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4008610&CatId=2676

What about Active Protection? Which drives are compatible or does it matter?

it seems rather cheap because even at Lenovo a 160gb 7200 rpm was $199.

Or can some recommend a brand that is good and has at least 200gb and spins a 7200 or faster and does not cost alot of money. Less that $150 preferably.

    Thanks Much!

If it works that's a good deal. Did your T61 come with a restore disc? Mine didn't so i don't know how I'd move my OS to the new drive. RAM and something more than the paltry 100GB were the first two things I wanted to upgrade.

ThinkPads do not come with recovery discs. You must burn them off. It's in the ThinkVantage folder on the start menu.

    Yes the drive will work.

    With my WD3200BEKT it does.

ThinkPads use a sensor on the motherboard, so that makes it independent from what HDD you use. But the harddisk has to support the protocol to park the heads or something like that.

I ordered type recommended by jcvjcvjcvjcv. I ordered the WD3200BJKT because it says that has the drop sensor. I just want to make sure that the WD3200BJKT this will fully work with my T61 and it active protection.
    From the site I ordered

It says SATA II does Sata 2 work with the T61 becuase on the Lenovo site it says Sata thats it

    http://www.amazon.com/WD-320GBSCORP...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1228768577&sr=8-1

    From the manufacturer site
    http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=477

Is this a good brand too...

    Thanks guys

I personally like Seagate drives right now because you get a free download of DiscWizard from Seagate's website. DiscWizard is a limited version of True Image. I like to wipe the drive and do a clean install, putting on only the drivers and my software. Then I make an image which I can restore at any time if needed.

The difference between the 7200 320gb drives is probably negligible(WD, hitachi and seagate). I got the hitachi 7k320 for my t61p and it works pretty good, although honestly I don't notice any difference between this and my old 100gb 7200RPM, but I needed the extra space.

You don't need a drive with a free fall sensor, but it shouldn't hurt either. I'd get whateveer drive is cheapest, i got my hitachi for 65 after rebate.

And yes SATA II will work in your machine.

    Seagate certainly makes 7200RPM drives.
