Ive recently began looking for a notebook for University purposes, and have considered many options from the Dell 700m to Sony S260. However, I've now realized that I should spend that little bit extra and go for the IBM since it's regarded as a better machine in every review I have read.

My question is regarded the Thinkpad T42 and it's hard drive. Being a student, I listen to a lot of music and watch a lot of movies, and plan to continue to do so on this machine. However, the hard drive capacity on the machine I like is a mere 30GB, no where near enough. I would like to have approximately 60 or so GB. On the website it gives the option for an additional hard drive, so would it be recommended I get a second 30GB harddrive, or call them and find out how to get a single 60GB hard drive? I figure the single 60GB HD will be better because of weight, but I don't see an option for it.

My second question regards price. These notebooks obviously cost a little more than your average notebook. I've noticed Apple give a student discount, do IBM give anything similar? Also, would you recommend getting a refurbished laptop with the same configuration, as that would save about $500. The only thing is, I plan to use this for the next 3 to 4 years.

Oh yes, I'm also a Canadian user incase that makes any difference, and the machine I'm interested in is this one:

If your going to use it for that long I would just get a new one. IBM offers many thinkpads with larger drives in them, if the model your looking at does not have it then I would just get a drive from www.newegg.com very cheap and then you can use the original as a backup for data.
If your a student try going to www.ibm.com and then on the right side click on "resources for education"

    good luck
