I ordered my T60 yesterday with the 5400 rpm HDD because I just told myself i'd make it a secondary and get a hybrid HDD when those became available. I am now regretting that decision and wishing I had ordered the 7200 rpm Hitachi. Does anybody know if I can call to make this change a day after ordering?

Yes, I'm pretty sure you can. I think the deadline is when they ship it.

Give 'em a call and see what that deal is. If you have to cancel and re-order, it's not a big deal as you only placed the order yesterday.

Always better to get what you want. I went through 2 laptops before getting a thinkpad. :)

Definately call them, it may delay it by a day or two but it shouldn't be an issue on their part.

Matt 'Mturco' your arrival date is nearing, you must be excited.

its probably cheaper just to leave it as is and buy a 100gb 7200 hitachi of newegg for $135. I just got the cheapest hard drive in mine and will pop a new one in when I get it. Ends up saving a few dollars and you have an extra hard drive incase anything goes wrong too.

I wish customers could DIY laptops easily one day, like DIYing a desktop.
We can now change: memory and hard drive, still too few options.

Absolutely. I would really suggest this. You can get 2.5" external enclosures for almost nothing (after rebates).

Building your own notebooks has been possible for many years. It's just the same price (or more expensive) to do so, and so not too many people do it. The most common barebones notebook brand you can get is from Asus. It's a lot of fun to build your own, actually.

I've been through that experience. I'd rather have all parts with same length warranty (less battery which seems to have no more than one year).

Well, I called this morning and changed the HDD to the 100 GB 7200. Unfortunately they had to redo the order itself and now my est. ship date is a day later (12/26/06).

How much did you have to pay extra for the bigger drive, if I may ask?

I went from the 100GB 5200 to the 100GB 7200 for $80, same as it would have cost to do the same upgrade on the web site on that day.
