    :)

I've had my T61p for a year now.

For it's B-Day I gave it a new NMB keyboard and a new palm rest.

    Feels light and fresh.

It had a Chicony keyboard. (Which I liked very much). I like the NMB so far. The track point feels much more responsive and easy to use.

New mousepad and mouse buttons work and feel great.

I also cleaned out all the dust from the fan and where ever I could see any dust.

Put a fresh coat of Zalman thermal grease on CPU and GPU.

Did you overclock your RAM to get 4-4-4-12?

How often should I change heat paste?

    Thanks.

You really should not have to change thermal paste. People just do it because they are slightly paranoid. ;)

I did it because I'm not sure what type Lenovo uses and to ensure high quality thermal grease I put stuff on that has been tested and proven to work well.

It's not difficult for me to do.

Also heat is a problem in any electrical device. It's not a bad idea to clean out dust and apply fresh thermal paste to make sure electrical devices are conducting in a cool as possible environment.

It's up to you. Standard warranty on my T61p is 1 year and Lenovo can extend warranty up to 3 or 4 years max usually. Heat will reduce the life span of most electrical devices.

A few people claim that the XBOX's "Red Ring of Death" problem can be fixed by applying a fresh coat of thermal paste.

If your CPU is running hotter than normal cleaning the cooling system and adding thermal paste can help.

Congrats ! My T61 will turn one year old tomorrow :) . I LOVE this laptop, it's by far the best computer I've owned. I almost bought an X300 a few weeks ago, but I have NO need for two laptops at this point. I'll probably have this as my primary computer for a few more years, then get something more recent. This is MORE then adequate for my needs.

Might as well. Their accidental type of warranty looks good.

If I extend the warranty, I won't go for the accidental since I really only use the Laptop at home and take it out rarely. Plus I am careful and there are no pets or kids to worry about :).

BTW - What type of thermal past did you use? Arctic Silver 5? Did you use the same type of thermal paste on the CPU and GPU?
