My factory Vista install went screwy so I had to reformat with a fresh Vista install but now I can't get the switchable graphics to work.

When I try to switch to "high performance" a little bubble pops up that says "System cannot enable High-Performance Graphics. Close any 3D or video applications and disconnect external displays. Then switch Graphics processors."

I have no 3D or video applications running and I have no external display connected.

After installing Vista I installed the wireless drivers from the Lenovo website and downloaded the system update utility. I then ran the update utility and let it do its thing to get all the other drivers installed, including the graphics drivers.

What did I do wrong and what can I do to fix this?

    Thanks guys!

When I did a clean install I never bothered with the System Update utility. I don't know if that is the problem, but you should try to install the Lenovo Switchable Graphics driver by yourself, manually. There are some good guides on these forums, like the following: Vista T 400 Clean Install Mini-Guide with Switchable Graphics

What I did was the following:

    1. Set BIOS to Discrete graphics, and OS discovery to false, boot into Vista
    2. Install Lenovo Switchable Graphics driver, and reboot
    3. Wait for Vista to load, then reboot
    4. Go into BIOS and set to integrated graphics, OS discovery still false
    5. Wait for Vista to load (it will install Intel drivers from the previously installed driver package), and then reboot
    6. Go into BIOS again, set switchable graphics and OS discovery to true
    7. Boot into Vista. Switchable graphics should work now

    I got it working.

Apparently Vista needs SP1 for switchable graphics to work.

    Thanks for the help though!
