I got my x61 about a month ago. Today it went into "Sleep Mode" when I closed it, but when I opened it up again it wouldn't come out of sleep mode. Holding down the power button didn't work and pressing Alt+F4 didn't work, after a few hours I just removed the battery. Now it won't turn on at all.

The hard drive is fine, I removed it and connected it to my desktop to back everything up. I have Windows XP installed, if that is any clues to anyone. I also read the problem could be cause by an overcharged capacitor, I tried removing the battery and AC-power and holding down the power button for 2 mins, but it didn't help. Anyone have any ideas? Has anyone else had this problem?!

Thank you in advance for any help!!

If you've taken the palmrest cover and keyboard off before, try disconnecting the BIOS battery and plugging it back in. Stupid question but does it work with just AC power?

Nope, doesn't work on AC power either. Any other suggestions a little less invasive? XD

You might as well try it. I had a similar issue with my T21 (pretty old). It went to standby and wouldn't come back out.

What causes the problem exactly? Am I going to have to take apart my laptop every couple of weeks? Might as well send it in for a new one... =/

Thanks guys... still thinking about what I can do...

The BIOS reset should be a one time fix. Since this is a hardware problem...I can't really think of anything else you can do on your own. If it's a capacitor issue or a battery issue or anything else you can only send it in for repair.

The lid close switch on my X41 sticks sometimes. On the X41 there is a very small switch above the PgUP button which is depressed by a protrusion on the lid when you close it. The switch is prone to foreign matter (crumbs etc.) causing it to stick in the "lid closed" position. I've had to clean it out with a toothpick a couple of times.

My wife has an X61, and I can't find the lid close switch! I think they improved the design to cure the foreign matter problem.

How does the X61 lid close switch work anyway ?

Could the lid close switch on your machine be stuck?

I think the issue is caused by the BIOS being confused as to whether you're in standby or not.
