    HELP! Horrible battery life, erratic CPU usage, 30-40 watts used!!

    Brand new X220

    Fresh install of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

    Up to date on Lenovo drivers and Windows drivers. .

    What the hell is causing this???

    Please advise

    FYI, that's when it was on battery only.

    Now, plugged back in, CPU usage is 2-6% add idle and power used is 10-25 watts. . .

    not sure if this narrows anything down. . .

    Haven't you looked at what processes are active during that behavior? In task manager...

    Yes, processes from all user total 83. All looks legit to me. . .

    It looks as if Speedstep is being disabled when you switch to battery.

    1. Make sure that you are using the latest BIOS, Lenovo Power Manager driver and Lenovo Power Manager software.

    2. Run HWiNFO32 and enable Sensors to get a second opinion on power consumption. It will also show the CPU speed.

    1. Yes for both PM driver and software. Also, on BIOS 1.20

    Firstly, I have edited the tags on your image to specify a display size (image="size", etc), otherwise it's a bit big for people with smaller screens.

    What settings are you using in Power Manager? Maximum Turbo seems to keep the CPU running at full speed even if there's no work to do. My own settings are:
