    download and run HD Tune

    then copy the part number that is shown on the top left, ang google it. Then, you'll eventually find the spec sheet for your drive.

    my last one was sata 150, but the current one is sata 300. There's not much of a difference though

    Yes it will work, but since the chipset doesn't support SATA 3.0 you'll get no benefit from it.
