How big is the noise difference for a given (7200 rpm hopefully) hdd between the primary slot compared to the ultrabay? I have an unopened WD6400BEVT that I'm now reconsidering.

    Thanks in advance.

On my old T61, I haven't noticed any difference at all. I guess it depends on the caddy's quality, although at that time I got the cheapest I could find on ebay....

I noticed a significant difference with my T510. I had a 7200RPM drive in the caddy. I bought the caddy direct from Lenovo, but there is a gap between the the bezel and the caddy at the top (it doesn't fit flush) so that might have contributed to the noise. Then again, the T510 chassis is pretty tall.

I would say, nearly same sound level. 7200k in T61 was very noisy. I've got 7200k in ultrabay in my T410 now and it makes same sort of noise. Noisier than a fan.

I have a seagate 7200 drive in cheap T500 ultrabay and can't hear a thing.
