    Hey guys,

I got my T500 about a month ago and love it bar the HDD. It makes the usual clicking sound that a HDD makes but it also makes a constant quiet background beeping sound (if that makes sense). Is there any way to get around this?

    thanks

Beeping? Is this a free fall sensor drive? Many of those have alarms that beep when the drive is experiencing shock. That could be faulty.

It doesn't make that 'beep' sound when your battery is running low, etc, it's like a beeping/humming sound...beeeeeep..constantly. Yes, i think it's one of those drives so I disabled the Active protection system but it still makes the same noise (thanks for your reply)

Oh, you're talking about whine probably caused by the disc spinning or just electronic noise/interference. Clicking is definitely not good though.

I noticed something weird. I was scrolling down a page using the down cursor key and the noise stopped, and as soon as I let go, the noise continued!

I think I remember that there was a BIOS updating which fixed a certain CPU "whining", but I am not sure if thats the case with your computer.

My T500 did that the first day I got it (2 weeks ago), but its been good ever since.

Thanks for your reply. Where abouts is the CPU?

Which BIOS version are you using? Do you have to update it from the beginning or can you jump straight to 1.19?

    thanks

Just been playing around and changed my power setting from Maximum performance to Energy Star and bizarrely it reduced the noise, but it is still there

It isn't bizarre per se...the whine is not unusual. It often has to do with speedstep, etc. There are a lot of variables. It just depends on the model computer if there are more or less noise issues. Could also be your power. Battery vs ac...
