T400/T500 with switchable graphics are quite well-known for their annoying bug: after resume from sleep/hibernate, both graphic cards are on, which greatly increase power consumption. This bug is now one year old, and it seems that Lenovo IS STILL WORKING on it.

The temporary solution is switching to high performance mode, and then switch back to energy-saving mode. Fortunately, there's a working fix now: just install Catalyst 10.10:

    https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/920...e/10-10_mobility_vista_win7_32_dd_ccc_ocl.exe

I got this from Lenovo forum, many users reported that it works, and I'm testing myself. I'll report back later ;)

confirmed: it's working, after some annoying installations (I must hard-reset my Thinkpad because when installation was completed, the screen was completely turned off, and I can't turn it on, thought the keyboard was still responding)

Turn it on, unplug the AC Adapter and do some tests:
+ Check that new driver was actually installed:

+ Switch to energy saving mode and sleep the computer
+ Resume it, and, well, the discrete card is off (Cool! ) :

and the battery time is now really nice

:D . hope this helps you

Yes, it's working. One recommendation: switch to the ATI GPU before installing the driver.

Clarification: the first link is for Win 64-bit systems, the second link is for 32-bit systems.

I just installed this as well, and had to go through the hard-reset process. After waiting a reasonable amount of time (I waited some 10 minutes after the screen went black), I hit the Windows key, Right Arrow, and then Enter to shut down my T500. Then, I unplugged the battery and AC adapter and held the power button for 30 seconds (hard-reset process) before plugging it back in and booting. Upon boot, ATI switchable graphics management seems to be in action.

I'll test this out over the next few days and report back! Thanks vimvq1987 for letting us know about this fix, +rep! ;)

Yeah, working fine here as well except for the brightness control not functioning in discrete mode. But, thats not big of a deal for me. Hopefully, with the official catalyst drivers quietly adding support, maybe we can finally see monthly driver updates perhaps.

Yeah, I'm having the same issue, but it's much less of an issue as the switchable graphics problem.

Just for clarification, is the problem only applicable to Windows 7 systems or also applies to Vista systems and thanks for the thread.

Only Windows 7 systems. Switchable graphics worked fine in Vista.

Finally, an official update from Lenovo:

    Problem fixes]
    - Fixed an issue where the power consumption increased after resuming normal
    operation from sleep state.
    - Fixed an issue where the LCD had blank screen after resuming normal operation
from sleep state by opening the lid.

I'm trying and will report soon

    UPDATE: tested, works flawlessly

It looks like a ATI driver instead of Lenovo driver, first, if you installed Catalyst 10.10, use this to remove it completely, and then reinstall all.

a reboot is required, after that, everything's fine. Switchable graphics works well, brightness changing works well, resume problem gone

    Good luck!

I installed the SG update as per instructions, and drivers were replaced, but now have no access to ATI Catalyst Control Centre. Instead i have some gobbledygook message about "Could not load file on assembly. MOM. Implementation".etc etc". Anyone get that, or know the issue? Might have to phone Lenovo techs...(which I dread)

update (7 hours later): Lenovo tech support couldn't help. But I tried again by removing old drivers, plus clearing sub-directory where new drivers were being placed, and somehow managed a good and clean upgrade. ATI Catalyst Control Centre available again. No gobbledygook message anymore. Success. Whew!

Does this Lenovo release include the latest ATI drivers, or is it the old package with the fix for the graphics problem after resume in W7?

from device manager, this driver is 8.752.4.0, and released on Oct/22/2010, it should be the latest ATI driver to date

new driver was reported as having some apps crashed on integrated graphics.

anyway, it seems that the following method works:

    (latest post)

I tried and it's still no problem. Hope this helps :)
