I know pretty much nothing about graphics cards. The only game I play is Second Life, everything else I do is Microsoft Office, email, and the internet. I was going to buy the Y530-40516EU which has the NVIDIA GeForce 9300M 256MB. But then, the Y550-418642U was released, which has the NVIDIA GeForce G 105M 512MB and is about $175.00 more. All the other specs of the Y530 satisfy me. I am only hung up on the graphics card. I do not mind spending the extra money if the Y550 graphics card will give me a better experience with SL, but I do not want to spend the money if it won't or if the improvement is pretty much miniscule. Thank you so much in advance for any help or advice.

The 105M is the same as the 9300M GS, literally, do not pay $175 extra for it. At the very least that's unethical pricing, and the most it's thievery.

As a matter of fact, I suggest you get the 9300M GS Y530 from the Lenovo Outlet for $500. Because if you're spending $1000 on a 9300M GS, I think that's a bit too much. What are the prices?

I'd say the 9300m would be the better of the 2...

both have 8 cores and 64bit bus, the 105m is clocked higher, so you essentially pay 175 dollars for a bios flash.
    Don't do it.

Thanks for the quick answers. In the student store, I can buy the IdeaPad Y530 - 40516EU for $791.12 or the IdeaPad Y550 - 41864AU for $967.12 - a $176.00 difference. I am sure there a few more bells and whistles with the Y550, but the Y530 really seems to have everything I need. In fact, I am also wondering if the IdeaPad Y530 - 40516GU (has a P7450 versus a P8600) for $729.52 or, better yet, an IdeaPad Y530 - 405166U (T6400) would suit my needs. Seriously, besides spending maybe an hour or so in Second Life talking to friends once a night, most of what I do is boring accounting spreadsheet work and email and internet browsing.

the 530 EU model comes with a 9500m G. 512mb. the website does not mention it, but that is what mine is (and a couple of other users also)....

the y530 is a nicer laptop. the frame-less screen is just gorgeous !!!

the 9500m is only available on the y530 EU model, so watch out for that!

Can verify the 9500m G. That's what my Y530-40516EU came with. Runs most games just fine.

    I second the outlet route

Just received my y530 from the outlet and I got one with P8400, 9500m G, 4GB for $530

I received it in under a week and it came as if it were brand new all original packaging and everything + a pretty nice free case

the 9500 is definitely better than the 105

    good luck
