Hey all, got my x200s last Thursday and had a chance to mildly play with it this weekend. Fantastic machine...very happy with it, albeit a few things/questions.
Bare with me, still new with laptops. Here's the specs:
XP Pro installed, Vista Business
64g SSD
3g RAM
9cell battery
5-1 card reader/5300 wireless/BT
1) haven't burned recovery discs yet AND lenovo did NOT send any Vista disks, googled a bit and found a phone number to call to get the Vista disks, will deal with this shortly. If they won't send XP recovery disks, does it matter that I'm waiting/using the comp between now and when my DVD burner comes in 1 week?
2) haven't updated anything yet as I thought I should wait until I create or get a hold of XP recovery disks, am I out of line? Is it "OK" to start adding anti-virus, updating XP service pack 3, etc etc? Do I need to update the BIOS, any drivers on the lenovo website, etc? What's the best way to go about doing this?
3) Stuck Key error 0210 - googled this and didn't come up with anything good short of going into the BIOS and turning off "report keyboard error". Could this be solved performing an update of the BIOS perhaps?
4a) I think i calibrated the battery, read the guide. When I got it, charged it up for ~18-24 hours, then drained it to 0, then recharged for 7ish hours. Then i set parameters (don't charge until 40%, cap at 95%). This seem in-line?
4b) regarding charging the battery...best to use it without AC power until it hits 40% and then charge or to charge whenever home even if anywehre below 95%? Once it hits full charge, should I remove and use as normal and repeat? the age old question...
5) Trackpoint moves just a tad after I let go of it sometimes. Does this happen to anyone else? Any way to fix this?
6) Haven't started updating the "startup" programs, cleaning out anything I don't/won't use etc. Have read the guides and will use the info there. Is this ok to do before i make recovery disks? Seems like it wouldn't be. Any advice/suggestions here?
7) think that's about it, will probably have many other questions at some point in time
Thanks a lot guys, really appreciate you taking the time to even look through the post.

1. Doesn't matter...recovery disks are for factory restore, not as you configure/tailor it.
2. Again, per 1, doesn't matter. I'd use the machine for awhile to get familiar with it however before doing too much tweaking.
3. Unless I'm holding a key down while booting (which is the only time I ever see this error) this shouldn't come up. Unless you have a defective keyboard.
4a) I'd not cap the top.
4b) I only charge if I'm under 50%, I leave plugged in even after 100% but only for maybe 24 hours or so. If I'm going to be plugged in for extended periods of time I pull the battery completely.
5) This is okay, it self calibrates.
6) Again, per 1, doesn't matter. Recovery disks are "factory restore" disks, not an image of your current configuration. Although it is a good idea to do backups as you go.
Enjoy... -
Regarding the battery:
Your thresholds are good. It is not good to charge a battery to 100%, especially for extended periods or if you do it repeatedly. 95% is generally a good cap, that's what I have it set at. -
Thanks a bunch guys!
Called Lenovo, after screwing around with it, I couldn't hold left shift + 9,O,L or the "." keys. The right shift + 9,O, and L worked but not the "." key. A replacement keyboard is shipping when in stock.
If I understand #5 Kevroc, the trackpoint will calibrate on its own based on how I use it? It's still slightly moving when I release it. It moves just beyond a link for instance when I'm about to click it.
XP service pack 3 seems to have slowed down my boot time a bit, not nearly noticeable, but enough for me to think about it.
Will continue playing with it this weekend. Thanks for the responses!
