I skimmed through the y510p thread and I understand why so many people are frustrated and thinking of returning their laptops. I had already purchased mine and while waiting for it to ship stumbled on this forum. Had I read that thread first I may have not gotten it...but I'm happy with it and glad I bought it.
That said I bought mine on 6/18 from the lenovo website. With father's day sale total price was 1124.50. Got the 8gb ram with the blu ray drive. As a casual gamer I prefer blue ray over the dual cards..and can always buy the 750m ultrabay later if I need to. I wasn't expecting to have it in my hands 2 days later but UPS had it at my door at 5:30pm.
Mine does have the 4700qm not the 4702. I believe its been confirmed that the 4702 is only if you order the dual card sli model. Either way I doubt I would care as I'm not as concerned with raw performance as some are.
As for the trackpad it will take some getting used to and I will use a mouse for most tasks. I dislike trackpads in general because I NEED a mouse wheel for scrolling, and of course for gaming. But that's not a flaw for this particular trackpad, just trackpads in general. Keyboard is great. The lack of dedicated media keys could be a drawback for some..but every keyboard I've used that has them I forget they are even there and never use them anyways.
Screen is awesome. Its not glossy but I haven't tested it outdoors yet. Bezel seems a bit too large on the top compared to the sides..but once you focus on the screen you don't even notice it.
Not too much bloatware. Mcafee will need to be cut out like the cancer it is..but otherwise not too bad. Windows 8..well its been discussed to death. I used XP up until about two years ago and went to win7. Other than the stupid live tile screen I don't mind win8.
I know this isn't a typical review but I just wanted to state that this is still a great laptop and a great value for a performance/gaming laptop. Is it perfect? no. And Lenovo really needs to make sure they print the correct specs on their website, especially for a gaming laptop.
One day in and I could not be happier. If anyone is debating getting this don't let a couple people's bad experiences and some poor advertising by lenovo sway your decision. 90+ percent of people who buy the y510p will be perfectly happy with it.

I have to agree with you. After getting past all the things that people have been bringing up about it, how Lenovo is just terrible at their advertising of their products, and a few of it's design flaws, it's actually a great laptop.
I usually save all my gaming for my desktop, but when I only have my laptop, that thing can still run games pretty well, especially for being the single 750m model.
Before I stumbled upon the Y510p, I had my heart set on a Sager NP7352, but I decided to change my mind. I look back on it now thinking I could've spent that extra 80 dollars (16 actually, if you included Lenovo's sales tax), and could've got something a little better, but I'm very happy with what I have right now.
But yeah, going with what you said, even after reading a few threads on here about the laptop, I'm still glad I purchased this laptop. -
I concur with you both. My Y510 has been great. I sold my heavy Alienware and moved to this one. Not as feature rich or flexible (2 drive bays and BD-ROM, eSATA, mini-displayport, HDMI in and output support) as my Alienware but also much more portable when traveling and still able to play all the games I enjoy very well. I have the SLI model and never use the trackpad so it has been a great buy.

People are complaining about the wifi-card? what exactly is the problem?
-
No 5ghz and poor drivers out of the box. Installing updated intel drivers fixes the driver issue. Short of replacing the card there's no getting around the lack of 5ghz support.

I've read reviews saying how good the sound and speakers are on the Y500, but there are no official Y510P reviews yet. Are you guys satisfied with the sound? Is it loud enough? What about the bass?
-
I have a qualcomm router. Do you know if there would be a wifi-card issue? How can I check?
-
The Y510 has the same speakers and sound as the y500. I think the sound is amazing. Watched Inception on Blu-Ray and it was impressive, plenty of bass. Also played some CS:GO and again...very impressive. I have a very expensive pair of headphones and will likely use them more often than not when gaming..but the JBL speakers on this are about as good as it gets for laptops.
As for the Wifi issues, none to report here. I didn't update any drivers and have had zero issues. My download and upload speeds are the same as they are with my desktop which uses a TP-link High Gain 150mps wireless adapter.
Not sure what the fuss is about the wifi with this..I think it only applies to earlier models of the y500. -
I agree with the OP. For what the machine does at the price that it costs, I can't complain.

Lol, I loved my Y500 for two weeks. Let time fix your opinion.

If you have nothing to contribute other than being whiny and childish it'd be nice if you could bugger off.

It's definitely anti-glare or matte. I also own a Macbook Pro and that is the very definition of glossy.

EDIT: Nevermind
Got my Y510 today..a positive review
