On Monday I was pleasantly surprised to see that my R60 was shipped (much sooner than the estimated date of 10/31 I was given when I ordered it last Monday). It would've come on Tuesday but because of customs/clearance issues, the delivery date was delayed until today. Anyway, I've spent the past few hours playing around with it and I love it. There's only one thing that's bothering me, but I hope it's fixable. When the R60 is running on battery, anytime I use the touchpad or trackpoint, there's a sound that I'm not sure is coming from where. It sounds electrical. It goes away when I plug something into the USB port. But once I take that something out of the USB port, the sound stays on, not just when I use the touchpad or trackpoint. If the R60 is plugged into the adapter, everything is great. When I get to school tomorrow, I'm going to try using a classmate's ThinkPad battery to see if it has something to do with the battery that I have. Otherwise I'm not really sure what to do.

might be the power management. go to power manager, disable cpu power management. or i think the latest bios upd fix the issue.

Thanks for suggesting that. I did it and the electrical sound went away. I tried changing it back to "automatic" later to see if the sound would stay away, but it came back. So I guess I will have to leave it on "disable" if the noise is really that bothersome to me. Can anyone tell me what this option does anyway? Does disabling the option drain the battery faster? I'm not versed on this.

    P.S. Still loving my ThinkPad!

i did a bios upd about 1-2 weeks ago and it solved the noise issue (without disabling power management). from the title, it seems that disabling it will reduce power efficiency

MP5: You have an older machine so I can understand you having to do a bios update, but he just received his new R60...shouldn't it have the latest and greatest bio in it already? I was just wondering because I will be ordering, most likely a T60, in the next couple days and I am interested in what the potential problems might be and how to solve them! Thanks!
