    Hello everyone,

I recently bought a Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB ssd that I use use as the sole harddrive on my Lenovo Ideapad Y580. Using the Samsung Magician tool, I have the following benchmarks:

As you can see, it seems my random read/write speeds are lower than they should be. Anything I can do to improve these numbers? Are they way lower than they should be? Any advice would be appreciated.

The picture shows you're configured for maximum reliability. You can change the settings in the samsung software to maximum performance.

Hey, yeah I'd figured I'd post in the SSD forum and the Lenovo so people with my specific laptop could also chip in. I tried what you suggested, put the power option to high performance (it was actually on "Samsung high performance" before) and put both minimum & maximum processor state to 100%. However, unfortunately this hasn't changed my benchmarks. Any other advice, I also updated my Intel driver Chipset INF to version 9.4.0.1017 (which is the latest, I believe). Any other tips?

It was on max performance originally, but I found there to be no difference between max performance and max reliability. Although, now I have switched back to max performance.

    Update:

I updated to this driver for the Intel(R) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller:

Intel SATA Controller AHCI Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit) - ThinkPad L430 and L530

I now have significantly higher random read/write speeds:

However, are these the latest intel drivers for the Intel(R) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller. The Intel driver site is hard to navigate and I haven't been able to find a new one there. Also haven't found a newer one on Lenovo's site. If oyu guys know of an even newer driver, please let us know here.

Other than making sure you have the newest Intel RST drivers installed and running prime 95 on a single thread while benchmarking, no :)

Like I mentioned, some OEMs slow down sata specs sometimes and this is common knowledge. That being said, I'm not saying that's necessarily the case here and really don't think your scores look bad. I would run AS SSD instead and post your scores here. It's more of an apples to apples benchmark and I can provide better feedback.
