I would get the 320GB 5400 drive for the main bay, then pick up a mSATA drive unless you need WWAN. Unless you need USB 3.0, the i7 is probably overkill and you can probably pick up an ExpressCard USB 3.0 card on eBay fro $20 or less. That's if you're concerned about price.

Not that great of a deal, I think. Unless you absolutely need an i7 (which provides very minimal performance benefits over an i5, or even an i3), I suggest that you avoid it: there's a heavy price premium for it. Also, I would get additional RAM aftermarket (2 x 4GB kits cost <$25), as Lenovo rips you off there.

Ok, I just order this config for $1025.34 shipped. I went with the i5. Lenovo says you can get up to 85 mins longer vs the i7. I got rid the the 720p camera since I have no use for it and went with Home Premium. I have no use for the extra features that Pro comes with. I have 8GB ram kit coming from Crucial.

    Intel Core i5-2540M Processor (2.6GHz, 3MB L3, 1333MHz FSB)
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64
    IPS Screen
    4 GB DDR3 - 1333MHz (1 DIMM)
    Fingerprint Reader
    No Camera
Intel 160 GB Solid State Drive, Serial ATA
    ThinkPad Battery 29+ (6 cell)
    Bluetooth 3.0
    Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (2x2 AGN)

Better price, but I think you could still find better. Several pointers:
    • Stick with the Core i5-2520M: other than a tiny clock speed bump (that, again, you won't notice), there's no difference between the two i5 CPUs.
    • I would suggest getting an SSD aftermarket and installing it yourself, as that not only saves you money but also allows you to select what SSD you like. Also, you could get an mSATA SSD.
    • Unless you're absolutely sure you don't need a webcam, I would get it. It'll make the laptop easier to sell down the road, and if you later do decide you need it, it's a pain to install yourself.

As for USB 3.0 ExpressCards, there's many for under $20. This one should work.

I got them to change the order...

Dropped to the i5-2520M and added the 720p camera.

I should get a 54mm card so it fills the entire slot right? A 34mm will leave an opening right?

I like the 320gb 7200 HD, then buy a 64gb or 128gb mSata SSD. That way you have an SSD for the OS and programs, plus lots of storage space.

I considered that, but 160GB is plenty for what I am going to use it for. Plus it was only $225 more to get the 160GB Intel SSD. Price was fair and it saves me from having to deal with any problems installing one myself. I really hope the screen is as good as everyone says. My 30" is an IPS too and that screen is fantastic.

Did you end up getting that one? It's pretty much spec'ed out except for an SSD.

Nah, I've transitioned into a new gaming laptop instead. Trying to hold out for an Ivy Bridge.. 13.3-14 inch, 1600x900 or higher, powerful gpu, somewhat thin laptop lol.
