I am thinking of getting T60 20077KU for $2186(little over my budget) , it has 15", T7400, X1400. I can probably do with 2.0 and little bit smaller hard drive but I can't find T60 with those lower specs and 15" screen.

I am also looking at asus , do they have laptops without the glossy screen with same build quality as thinkpad. Any other model which has same reputation as ibm and under $1700.

You can probably do better than that, given that during their last sale they were selling t60p's of similar specs for under $1800.

Some people have recently mentioned that you can get discounts through many credit card companies. If you work for a large company, there are probably other options to get a discount, in addition to just calling them on the phone and telling them they need to give you a better price. Apparently the reps can negotiate to some extent.

Yeah those prices seem a little high.

That 20077KU is listed as $1,809.79 on the public "student" discount Lenovo site if you were still interested in that model. Tax would be added to that, but shipping is free.

I say you are better off configuring it yourself on Lenovo's site. The jump from the T7200 to T7400 is like $200 and not worth it in my opinion unless you have a specific need.

I need to find I can do better than this , is it worthwhile getting their protection service for 3 years or no ??. I need to buy a notebook before new year.

Smart guy. Call them up and tell them you have the credit card promotion. I used my citibank mastercard eventhough I got the email from MBNA. I got the exact model you are looking at. I think the price was $1745.

Call my rep and ask if the EPP credit card promotion is still going on. I bought mine 12/18.

FWIW, I busted my budget on Friday also. Just got notice that my 9450D6U is shipped and in HK so I guess that the titanium shell issues have been solved.

    z61m 1.66 GHZ Core2Duo, 1 GB, 120GB-5400, 128MB X1400, 15.4" WSXGA+ (integrated camera etc), DVD-DL, 6-cell, XPPro $1121.60 before tax

Upgrade to 9 cell unavailable in package deal. Also would have wanted a 300 nit screen (not sure if this exists in 15.4") and tried to downgrade operating system (could not do it in package)

also ordered an extra 1GB PC-5300 for $109.17

This will replace my current laptop (Toshiba 233MMX). Don't laugh..Spending money is painful.

For what I have, I am paying a $100-$200 premium for a comperable Toshiba/Gateway/HP from one of the chain stores. I think that it is worth it.
