    Hello guys.

Could somebody recommend a good 1 DIMM 4 GB PC3-8500 at a good price and that works on my T400?

    Thank you

A good 1DIMM 4GB module is a cheap one, since really, there's no difference between different brands with the same specs. However, a cheap 4GB single DIMM is pretty much nonexistent.

Why do you need a 1DIMM of 4GB? Your money is much, much, much better spent elsewhere, unless you are running many VMs at the same time, in which case you may need the RAM.

RAM prices have gone up, up, up in the past couple of months. If you want 4GB on a single DIMM of PC3-8500 you are looking at paying AT LEAST $300.

EDIT: Probably more since your in the EU.

While a good 2x2GB kit can be had for <$100...

Any DDR3 RAM stick will do, IF it comes with lifetime warranty. Other than that they are basically all the same.

As said above, why only 1x4GB DDR3? Isnt it better a 2x2GB DDR3 configuration?

I've installed two KVR1066D3S7/4G from Kingston in my T400s and they are working great. But they aren't cheap :-( - ca. 275 Euro (=400 USD) each.

I'm using two Crucial 4GB DDR3 DIMM's in my T400s. Working fine so far. I typically use about 6GB of RAM daily, with VM's and such. VM's are great, they're just huge memory hogs.

I love having 8GB of RAM in my notebook.

Does your system actually show 8GB useable—or something less than this?

my X61s has 8GB and shows all 8GB.   same goes for the 16GB in my thinkstation.   there's no reason why any memory would be missing on a full 64-bit system.

fwiw, of the 16GB in my D10 i only have 5.2 GB free at the moment and i'm not even working in 3D for this project.   every once in a while, some of my solid model files are so big that even 16GB will choke.   not all of us soak up memory using VMs.   some of us actually work with our computers. :p :D

Actually, Windows 7 x64 reports 8GB (7.90GB Usable). My guess is some RAM is taken for the integrated graphics. So yes, not exactly a full 8GB usable, but it was the same when I had only 4gb, 3.90GB was usable.

And VM's are important to my work. Some of us actually work instead of playing with pictures all day. :p :D
