I know that the T400/T500 had the Gobi1000 option. The Gobi2000 card looks sweet - supports some pretty high end WWAN bandwidth from AT&T. I haven't seen any reviews of any Gobi card (Gobi2000 was announced in November of 2009).

Has anyone had any experience with either Gobi product? How does the the reception work without a screen-integrated antenna?

I have the initial one. I use it on Verizon though. ATT has crappy service where I live. I like it personally. I got tired of losing USB adapters.

I wouldn't get the second one. ATT's network isn't good enough. I'd wait until LTE becomes available for either ATT or Verizon.

Would the Gobi2000 be upgradeable via software/firmware to LTE? Or would I be able to swap out the card myself when that goes out?

Any ETA on the LTE support?

LTE runs on an entirely new frequency from either EVDO or HSPA

Why wouldn't it? Bottom line for you, get the old gobi card and save your money. Depending on where you live the new stuff isn't going to be available for quite while.
