So i looked at the display of the 15.4inch T60 ( MAtte finish)with WXGA screen in Circuit City and the resolution was a noticably lower quality than other Laptops in the store with a Glossy Screen
Does this make any sense?
I have been trying to decide between the WXGA and WSXGA for the T61.......concerned about the smaller font but after seeing this difference i may go with the WSXGA and take my chances.

I think the glossy screens are able to offer better contrast ratios which make the image have a much more vibrant look, but it can have quite a bit of glare. People like the matte displays because they eliminate the glare, but are not able to provide as rich of an image.
-
My T61 has a matte screen (14.1 widescreen). The image is not as vibrant but I'm pretty satisfied with it.
-
I turned down the gamma down to around 40% percent. This really helped the image vibrancy. Before the blacks look really washed out. I have the NVS 140M on my t61.

I prefer a matt screen, get to much reflection on glossy

Bui there's no option to get a glossy on the Thinkpad range at all, right?
Pitty one can't put a different/aftermarket panel.. I long for the days when laptops become totally standardised and parts can be interchanged. -
With a glossy screen, half of the time you end up staring into your own face. Well, even though my face is not exactly deformed or anything, deep down I really do feel a bit disconcerting having to stare at myself in a mirror all day long.

I'm a rook, but what is the issue with the Lenovo resolutions? What is the WSXGA vs say WXGA+ on the 14.1 T61?
I'm trying to filter through all this. I like my screens with a decent crispness, but I don't like the glare of the glossy. Small icons are just fine with me.
Will I be satisfied with the T61 14.1 WXGA+? -
Doubtful. What specifically were you comparing that had a higher resolution than wxga? Circuit city and best buy don't carrry much in the way of wxga+, wsxga+, or wuxga to even compare resolutions (except occasionally in 17").
If something looked lower res, it was probably what was being displayed. Different desktop backgrounds, screen savers can trick you. Though if you're not talking resolution, and it just didn't look as nice as other wxga displays in circuit city- I believe you. And agree. Some of those vaios look nice- glossy without being too reflective. imo ymmv -
wxga 1280x800
wxga+ 1440x900
wsxga+ 1680x1050
wuxga+ 1900x1200
The higher, the smaller, the more you fit on a screen. I like wsxga+ on 15.4". -
Heres what a Ducati Desmosedici RR looks like on a matte screen facing the sun:
and here it is on a glossy screen facing the sun:
Ok, that might not be exact, but its close -

People like matte too because when it dirties, it isn't as noticeable. I am one of those people.
-
I prefer matte for the simple reason that I want to do work on the screen, not see my reflection.
Sorta kidding, but glossy screens are a bit of an eyesore after a while. IMO. -
I hate glossy screens and it gave me headaches while I had them and used them. I will probably never get another glossy screen again.
-
For some reason, manufacturers have over-done the glossy option. I have a Gateway 3500 series laptop from a couple years back. Glossy screen, but it complements the screen -- not dominate it like nowadays.

Glossy display notebooks bug me. Before I knew about glossy displays, I was freaked out that an LCD had reflections of myself and bright lights. I do not even get reflections off of my old Sony CRT.

Sorry, just had to say it.
