OK, I've got a new copy of Vista Ultimate and I'm ready to do a clean install on my unreliable (as it currently stands) T61. So I thought, hey, why not upgrade the hardware at the same time. So I purchased a new Hitachi 200 gig 7200 RPM drive.

Any issues I should be aware of when replacing the hard drive and doing a clean install per the guides on this site...?

Lockups, slow boot and shutdown times, blue screens, and generally very slow performance. I've had blue screens right in the middle of some important computing work and that makes it unusable for my line of work. I'm hoping that a re-install of Vista will make a big difference. I'm sure part of the problem is Vista, but having run Vista on a couple of other computers; I know it's not all Vista.

This makes my rather inexpensive T61 at $ 1799.00 turn into a much more expensive laptop when you add in the cost of Vista Ultimate ($279) and a Hitachi 200 gig hard drive at $ 229. If it fixes it, it will be worth it. If not, there's always ebay.

Are you installing 64-bit or 32-bit?

Definitely the 32 bit. I've heard there are still some driver issues with the 64 bit.

I have only one suggestion, something to test before fresh install. Go to control panel and uninstall intel turbo memory driver, then go to Windows/System32/Drivers and look for iaStor.sys dirver. It should no longer be there, than give it some time and see if you get the BSOD again. I'm almost sure you will not.
