How much battery life will I gain from going from full backlight brightness and lowering it down 2 bars on a 6 cell battery with non LED screen and NVIDIA graphics. About 5-10 minutes? Please guess on what you think.

I don't know. I just want to know whether or not to change my settings down two bars. There is no way it will save 30 minutes.

Fll bar is what, 8? On a T61? Discrete graphics? I'd say more than 10 minutes. 30 minutes isn't impossible.

    45 minutes.

    no really, 10-20 minutes?

you have a lenovo. why not just use the power manager? look at the time left at 100%, and then look at the estimated time left down 2 ticks? should give you a better estimate than i can. or is this for a prize? ;)

sure. your estimated time left should increase a bit when you turn the display brightness down.
    check it out.

It did not increase time but it decreased wattage by 0.40 to 1 watt. Is that a lot? How much time is that?

when you are on battery, put your mouse on the power manager in the task bar (just let it hover). you will see a time estimate. you can estimate how much longer this way.

you must be looking at amps (current- the A). 1 watt power usage is not possible, i wish it were! watts is a bit lower... current, voltage, THEN wattage. ;)

another way to estimate how long your battery will last is to look at the full charge capacity. let's say it's 40 watt hours (Wh). if your power usage is 10 watts, you will probably get about 4 hours from that battery.

It does not give me a boost in time? How is that possible?

give it a second. the usage change is probably small enough that the algorithm doesn't pick it up instantly. turn your display all the way down to check, it will 'give' you more time. :) keep in mind that the time listed is an estimate based on your current power usage!

I know but I want to only lower down 2 bars, not all the way down.

haha.... yes, but you can check to see if the estimated time goes up in response to lowering it all the way. just so you can see the estimated time is working.

then check it for 2 bars. if it doesn't change at all, you can always do a real life check.

see how long the battery lasts at 100% brightness. recharge and see how long it lasts with 2 bars less brightness. you sure do want to know about those 2 bars. lol.

It's changing all the time lol. What would 4 bars out of 15 be if I only had 8 bars?

yes, it changes as power usage fluctuates. you just have to estimate. an estimate of an estimate. ;)
