Just noticed this gap today after owning the laptop for over a week. I push the bezel back together but it doesnt stay that way and the gap just opens up again.
Does anyone else have this issue? Is it worth contacting Lenovo about?
Heres a picture:
-
you should get it fixed
-
Yea I tried that, it stays for about a second, but then the gap comes back.
I guess I'll be emailing Lenovo.
Thanks.
I'll keep this thread updated. -
Created a service request on IBM's ESC+ site on 4/7 and I still havent received a call or email yet.
Is this normal? How long does it usually take them? -
-
LeMarcus, thats very worrying... Hopefully they dont do that anymore. I'd rather not return and re-order though, as the discounts I had at the time are gone now (10% coupon).
EDIT: By PC-Doctor, do you mean I can just use the "ThinkVantage Toolbox" to find the info? If so, where? I'm looking at advanced system details and it doesnt tell me manufacture date of the screen.
cn_habs, lol I guess I'll give them a call on Monday if they dont call me first. -
They should be able to price match if you reorder, and maybe give you a little more discount due to the defect. If never hurts to ask. You would have to clarify this with a sales rep first, I believe.

It just seems like a real PITA. I'll just ask customer service about my screen being replaced with something older (is that even possible considering the T410 is new and uses a newer screen?).
I hate that I have to go through all of this because of some stupid defect they didnt catch.
The gap actually isnt the only problem. The whole bottom part of the bezel bordering the screen seems weak and the sticker that says "lenovo" on the left and "T410" on the right is mis-placed. The sticker hangs off the right edge. ugh
EDIT: Whoa, completely missed your post cn_habs. I didnt realize their customer service was 24/7. I'll give them a call tomorrow then. Thanks. -
Alright so I gave 1800-IBM-SERV a call. They asked me if I received the box yet, I said no, they told me to call the depot.
I called the depot but their hours are M-F 8AM-8PM. So no luck there.
Guess Ill see what happens monday. -
Yea I definitely am a newbie at this. This is my first laptop, so its my first Thinkpad and first time dealing with IBM/Lenovo in general.
This is all the more reason why I should give them a call on monday. If they cant guarantee that they wont replace whole upper half with something refurbished from two years ago, then I guess I'll have to ask for a refund or some kind of reimbursement.
I just wish I found this issue earlier, before I installed and configured everything on the laptop.
But do you really think they can replace the panel with something from years past? Did they even have a 1440x900 14" LED panel before the T410?
I see your point though, warranty repairs can be devious. -

@LeMarcus...I don't think the car analogy works here. Lenovo has the responsibility to fix Nippero's problem to HIS satisfaction. I would hope they do that. Of course, if it was a faulty device, which going by the pics and description, I think (with my limited knowledge) it is, then it is very likely that they will replace the machine. But if it is something that they can fix by either replacing the part or some other such way, then they will do that.

Okay so I called the service depot... they couldn't help me. Basically what the woman said was, the parts they have at their disposal aren't labeled "new" or "refurbished" so theres no way she can guarantee me that my laptop wont be fixed using a refurbished part. I guess thats how all warranty services really work anyway.
I checked my current panel's details and it says it was manufactured in 2009... so it seems like even if they were to give me a refurbished anything, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
I think I'm fine settling with this as long as everything works and looks good. However, if I am unsatisfied with anything, I'll give the Lenovo sales department a call and demand some sort of action or reimbursement. -
I just noticed the exact same defect on mine which becomes very noticeable when pressure is applied. I'll be calling Lenovo wednesday. Wonderful machine and with the exception of this one problem, I'm very happy, but with the amount of money I've spent I expect better quality.
-
As far as i know, the refurb parts would have a sticker on the part that says it is refurbished.
-
I guess now that I think of it, I should've gone to sales first, thats what I did with my Dell monitor in the past... But then again, its not as simple with a customized laptop.
Also, now that I look at it, the Lenovo site doesnt even offer the NVS 3100M as an option anymore.
And I do agree that a new machine should be exactly that, new and perfect out of the box, but hey I was unlucky. So now I'll just have to see how it comes out of warranty repairs. You guys think Lenovo would give me a partial refund if I end up unsatisfied and yell at them a bit on the phone?
Especially if the depot woman lied about parts not being labeled...
Hopefully everything will go smoothly though, I just want to have a perfect working laptop again =.= -
if you are nice and reasonable with your requests, i think there is more chance of you getting the help or resolution that you wanted.
-
lead_org, of course, I didnt literally mean YELL at them at the phone. I know from experience that would just them off and get me no where lol. -
Woah, I never thought some one would have the near-same problem as me. For my T410, the screen bezel separates in the top-right hand corner. I snap it in, and it pops out a few seconds later.
When my keyboard failed and got it replaced, I asked the techie to check it out; he said there's nothing wrong, the bezel is designed to be removed anyway.
