I recently purchased the T61P with the 256mb Quadro FX 570m. I've installed Supreme Commander, Bioshock, and Dawn of War on the laptop hoping to be able to play them with somewhat reasonable graphics. I didn't have my hopes high but I figured they'd at least run.

That's where I was wrong - Supreme Commander won't load due to a graphics error, BioShock crashes after the opening cutscene, and Dawn of War won't load.

Long story short - do I need to install some other drivers to make these games work, or am I just SOL?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

weird. I'm sad if that is that bad. I bet its drivers issues. I would install the modded drivers.

I would have to assume its the drivers. What OS are you running? What's your system's config? The T61p has been reviewed on various sites shattering the competition with high frame rates, even in larger resolutions with max details. Yah, as recommended in the previous post, check www.laptopvideo2go.com and grab the latest modded drivers (and matching .inf file) for better gaming performance.

    Running Windows Vista business.

And excuse my ignorance, but which drivers off of that website do I want to install?

I tried the 165.01 drivers with the modded .inf. with no added changes. Both Doom 3 and Thief 2 ran, but I lost the ability for the power manager and keys to control the screen brightness.

The stock drivers ran Doom 3 fine, but they are quite old.

I've reinstalled the stock drivers. If you can figure out the manual/power brightness thing, you might be able to make it work. I had heard that Bioshock had a graphics compatible mode of some kind.]

[I'm sorry about Bioshock, but it appears hardly compatible with anything. That, and the DRM registry hack is a lost-sell situation, as far as I'm concerned. I'm not buy Half-Life 2 or a Sony-anything for the same reason. As a computer OWNER, there's a limit to what I will put up with.]

With the factory-loaded drivers I couldn't even get Bioshock to load. The 165.01 drivers worked fine for me but for the fact that the screen wouldn't power back on after sleep or hibernate (minor nitpick, I know... :) ). I rolled back to the 156.55 that I got off Windows Update; works fine now technically and for Bioshock. You might also try this fix.

That's about the same level of performance I'm seeing, wuzer. As for CS:S and BF2: Though I haven't got them installed to test first-hand, I would be shocked if you couldn't crank them all the way up to 11. Neither game is terribly demanding on modern hardware. I did pretty decently in both with a 6600GT before.

i used the 165.01 drivers and had the same issues as you. I think it might be a vista thing, not a lenovo hardware incompatibility issue.

i need to try the 156.55 drivers.

I tried on set of Nvidia drivers which didn't allow for Key and Power brighness adjustment.

I am going to try that version, and if it works, I'm likely not to change them without a strong reason.

    Thank You,
    Brenda

I tried the 163.44 driver, and have the brightness/power issue. I ran the driversweeper between installs. I also updated the hotkey utility, and the power driver and manager--still no control over the brightness with keys nor power manager. Sigh.

Brenda, I'm looking for the same answer. From this thread it looks like we may just need to install the 163.44 right ON TOP of the quadro driver without removing it, running driver sweeper etc.... I'm hoping someone can confirm this for us. Also, does it affect the driver performance to do this?

The power issue I had is: if I pulled the power cord the display brightness would not dim to my power-managed preset level.

How much RAM do you have and where did you get it?

I have Bioshock crashes that I narrowed down to a RAM issue with my 4 gigs of RAM.

Any ideas what RAM you have?

Funny thing... I actually haven't had any crashes with CSS... You should try downloading the Bioshock demo and see if it crashes on you.
