Gabe Newell: DirectX 10 for Vista was a mistake

"In an interview with heise online, Gabe Newell, president of Valve Software, said that Microsoft made a terrible mistake releasing DirectX 10 for Vista only and excluding Windows XP.
He said this decision affected the whole industry as so far only a very small percentage of players can use DirectX 10."

How about Vista by itself was a mistake.

Well, its pretty bad when both Gabe and Carmack say DX10 is a bad idea. Not to mention it has to come at a bad time, where a lot of games for PC are just console imports.

Its a good idea overall, less overhead on the software api. The extra graphics usually come from the developer adding more to effects due to the reduced overhead.

Its a shame that the thumb monkeys (aka console gamers) are slowing down the adoption along with it being Vista only.
