Hopefully there is in fact a separate gpu fan. Sitting at idle, my T61 runs at about 0-2% processor running 59 processes, and about 51C. While it isnt that loud, there is a fan, or fan noise rather coming from the right side of the computer, always. Even just turning it on after sitting in a cool room for several hours, the fan will run beginning at startup. Ive used tpfancontrol and tried just about everthing else. Some program, i cant remember what showed the "gpu fan speed" at 100%.

anyone have any help? am i wrong in thinking this notebook has more than one fan?

so what youre meaning to say is that i'm hearing the hard drive, rather than a fan. this is a noisy hard drive, i guess. consider me enlightened.

Yup, I can confirm that there is in fact only one fan and it's in the top left corner. The bottom right corner is indeed where the HDD is located. :)

yeah, so now the question is how to quiet the hard drive down. it doesnt help that its a 7200rpm drive, but shouldnt it shut off once in a while? i have it set to shut down after 1 min, but it never does. search indexing is off and i just defragged it. what else can i do?

My 7k200 200G Hitachi disk is noisy as well. I change the power management, shut down hard disk after 3 mins (On XP). it works a little bit.
What kind of Hard disk do you have, Mikeeeeee?
