I just got a refurb G530 in the mail today, and like all good computer owners I decided to format it right away. So I popped in my XP disk and everything was going fine until i got the dreaded blue screen.

Now normally I know how to diagnose a blue screen, but those are usually software crashes while vista is already running. I have no idea what is causing this, nor do I know how to solve it.

All I know is the technical info that the screen is providing me.

    Stop: 0x0000007B (0xf782524, 0xc0000034. 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I have not tried a different OS disk at the moment because the only other one I have is a 64 bit version of vista.

can anyone shed some light on this, or tell me what other info I can give for help? thanks a lot!

EDIT: I am planning on running memtest, however I have no idea where my copy is ATM. Also, the blue screen happens at the same time on each attempt. After all the drivers have been loaded, as soon as I get the setup is now starting windows message, that is when it occurs.

Have slipstreamed the AHCI driver into your XP disc?

No I did not, however I have solved the problem, at least for myself.

I tried changing some BIOS settings and I found that changing the SATA mode from AHCI to IDE worked. I am finishing the install as I type this with no problems so far.

If any other people are having this problem then maybe it is a bios setting for you as well.

I do appreciate the attempted assistance though, and I have added sata drivers to XP discs in the past, just not with the one I am using.

That is what was causing the BSoD then was the compatibility settings. If I'm not mistaken in order to set it back to AHCI would require a reinstall with the SATA drivers slipstreamed. However, I'm not sure if there is any performance difference between the two settings. If it is working fine just leave it.

The SATA mode works better for large file transfer.
