    Hello,

Looking for a relatively cheap 14 or 15" notebook and spotted the G530. Would this be considered to be a good deal or should I look elsewhere? Secondly, are there any specials or coupons available?

It's a good, well-built budget laptop, but whether it is a "good deal" depends on the price and hardware specifications at that price.

Get the R series instead which is a Thinkpad.

If you're going for Lenovo.. I would go for the Thinkpads. Otherwise if you want the best budget 14/15" notebook I would look at the Dell Studio laptops instead. The 14" Studio 14z is looking pretty good... The Studio series tends to be better built than the mainstream Inspirons. They're affordable, well-built laptops and you can even get them with discrete graphics.

Would I recommend the Dell Studio line over the Thinkpad T-series? No way.. but certainly over Lenovo's other budget offerings.

That was exactly what I was going to say. Check out the Thinkpad R series both new and in Lenovo's Outlet. Some really good prices for them...

well the new inspiron 15 is $379
    what ever suits your needs...
with a G series expect the quality build to be super crappy...
    nothing like a thinkpad...
it should not even bear the IBM/LENOVO name
