G/B560 looks nice for a consumer budget laptop, but I would go for Edge against those you mentioned!
You will get ThinkPad service which is supposedly much better than consumer line notebooks have.

If you can wait, then wait for couple of months, new Edge models will be released, perhaps they will offer better value for the price and some additional features.
Like E520 15" model should sport number pad for example.

If you have to choose between those you mentioned, go for Edge, its business class, its ThinkPad=better customer service.
I am not going to buy any other laptop than ThinkPad for now, if I will want something very cheap then I will rather go for cheap Edge than some consumer laptop.

"supposedly" reduces certainty while "much" enhances certainty.

How long did you get your own ThinkPad R400 problems resolved? Was it smooth and efficient? Did it give you total satisfaction from beginning to end? Or did you have a frustrating time fighting? Has your "replacement" T410 finally arrived yet? Hmm...

Im still waiting for my T410.
While it took a while for local IBM to react on my R400 issues I would still recommend ThinkPad as better choice above any other non-business brand.
I cant comment on Elitebook/Probook/Latitude/Precision/Vostro customer service since Ive never owned their products.

But I feel safe regarding ThinkPad service.
Why? Its simple, I will not re-write my thread, if someone wants, heres the summary post regarding my story with IBM/Lenovo:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/6989527-post72.html

After all waiting and hassle with IBM service I received very good assistance from Lenovo staff and eventually got my laptop authorized to be replaced.
Dont expect equally good/fast service world wide, YMMW, but eventually problems will be solved, at least in my case they were and I consider that to be positive experience. How fast depends of whom you deal with at Lenovo/IBM.
If not for limited IBM rights what they can and what they cannot do, Im sure my laptop would have been replaced within first month of ownership.
Lenovo didnt try to talk me out of replacement or offer another repair attempt, they called me and said that my laptop will be replaced. Just like that, easy and simple.
That makes me confident that if something goes wrong in the future with my ThinkPad Im quite sure that I will get my problems resolved.
I only hope that Edge gets the same service as other ThinkPads do, because if they do, then Edge is very good bargain. In that case I might as well myself one of the Edge's as desktop replacement.

Would you share with us your experience on "sub-standard" Edge service? Or have you ever owned one?

What do yo mean? Are you being picky about me recommending to go for Edge over other laptops because its ThinkPad and Ive had in my opinion satisfactory resolution to my R400 problems while not owning Edge?

I do think that Edge wins - trackpoint alone, but that is only my opinion. Every one is free to decide for themselves.

Actually, i can see that the specs on the Edge series is kind of slow compared to the other. So forget the Edge.

    It's now only a run between the G, B and Z series.

Which one has best build quality?

I suppose only those who have owned them or played with them in real life could give some insights about how well built they felt compared to each other and people here dont talk much about anything but ThinkPads so it might be difficult to give less or more detailed review based on personal experience :)

I could judge them by their looks and specs only :p

Hmm... somebody with alot of lenovo knowlegde must be able to list the 3 ...

From what i can see, it looks like B-series is the best and most business built, then the Z-series which is for multimedia and small gaming and the last and worst is the G-series...

But i just cant tell for sure... perhabs i should call lenovo...
