Is there a trend whether future thinkpads (in particular, the X-series) will use DDR3 memory more than DDR2? For example X60/61 series used DDR2, but X200 series use DDR3. Opinions, folks?

They already transitioned to DDR3. No more DDR2

Only x-series or all thinkpads? Only thinkpads or all laptops?

Well if they used DDR3 in the x200, they're hardly going to put DDR2 in the x201/x210......

Everything basically. The only Lenovo laptops that still use DDR2 are netbooks

Yeah, but that's basically a netbook in my opinion.

the X100e is meant to be cheap hence the e designation. So using these older motherboards will decrease the part price, in which case lenovo pass it on to the consumer by lowering the RRP.

DDR3 is taking over in Intel using products. Even netbooks will be using it. Later this year new N450's and N470's will start getting produced with support for DDR3.
