how to do a full disk image backup in thinkpad?

i want to do a full image backup on an external harddrive. (2.5" USB xHDD)

i have thinkpad X300 with Vista Business.

    ---------------------------------------------------

option 1: using Vista's Windows Complete PC Backup.

    - how do i go about and restore the image? if i dont have vista install cd. (lenovo only gave me 3 recovery disk, the second one is vista operating restore disk, but im not sure if that will boot vista from the cd.)

    option 2: Thinkvantage?

    - is there a tool to do this? Rescue and Recovery?

    option 3: anyother option?
    - any other built-in tools that i dont know of?

    ---------------------------------------------------

which one would you guys recommends? Thinkvantage Tool, or Vista Complete PC Backup?

    any walkthrough guide? with screenshot?

the problem with Clonezilla, according to the review, is that there is no compression so the image is the same size as the total partition size you're imaging. Acronis, Ghost and the others all use proprietary compression, which makes image file sizes smaller. Acronis etc. also allow you to create a boot disk so reinstalling the image to a bare disc is easier.

Clonezilla can compress your image using gzip, bzip2 and lzo. And it's free ;).

But I think the Demo Version of Acronis True Image will also do the job, if it creates smaller images.
