I have recently returned my xps m1330 due to so many problems. I had an initial happy outcome after I got it but then it all went for the worse. I got it with pretty much maxed out specs for around 1600 or so before tax and got the 3 year warranty in home service + lojack thrown in. Such a good deal at the time right before they readily became available for 900+ or so with the coupons. CPU whine, tech coming to fix it and cracking my laptop, tech putting the keyboard back wrong and the keys having mini hills. The service was there but the service was poor.

I have just placed an order for an x61 with the contractor purchase program and the 10% off coupon and pretty much got the 2.2ghz, 1gb ram ( have 4gb from the m1330 that i bought), no turbo memory (once again have a pci e turbo mem module from m1330), 120gb hdd 5400, 8cell high capacity, bluetooth pan, and intel 49xx wireless.

Now the question I have is how much of a battery life difference is there between the x61s and x61? Can anyone tell me? Is it like 1 hour? I remember a thread I think that compared the 2 and now for the life of me my searches dont yield that. I hope you veteran x61 owners can tell me of the good about the laptop and such and hopefully it arrives ahead of the estimated ship date of 1/31/08. Anyone have any experience with the shipping date and actual shipped date?

    Good luck all!

you made an excellent choice. I bough my 1st lenovo (x61s) last month on a whim and at 1st I thought it was too small, but now I don't know how I used anything bigger. I recently saw a 1330 and it felt so cheap and the keys clicked so loud. Anyway. not sure on the battery life difference but with the 8 cell you can get PLENTY of battery life out of it. My only logic for getting the s was the "brighter" screen...I'd stick with that nice 2.2 processor and call it a day. My laptop shipped 2 weeks before the estimated ship date.

Check out the review articles of the x61 and x61s from this site. They gloss over it. But from what I understand, it's around 30 min... definitely no more then an hour. But the x61s will be approx 0.3 pounds lighter with extended battery.

But you are sacrificing a lot of horsepower going from a x61 to x61s. In the end depends what you need, and if you can justify getting an extra 30 min battery life.

edit: oh yeah, and the screen. but i personally don't know much about it.
