Any ideas on why a fresh vanilla install of windows 8.1 pro would keep waking up from standby? Which even viewer can I look at to figure this out?

It's likely that it's set to wake on network activity. Check power management.

Well I went into the task scheduler and disabled a few things, and disabled wake on lan for the lan port (not the wifi) and then I looked in the event viewer and there was a whole bunch of sleep timer reports that seemed very random and listed the source as "unknown" so I went into the power settings and disabled any sleep timers. Last night it seemed to not wake up but now I have to see if my WHS backups ran during the night (which I doubt).
