    Hi,

I received a new y530 for Christmas. Less than a month after receiving it, out of 320 gig memory, I have 10 gigs left. Is there anything I can do to free up memory? The one thing I noticed was I have a "programs" and a "programs (x86)." Do I need both?

    Thanks for your help,

    Kelly

You probably have multiple windows restore points saved (delete some).

You may also have multiple thinkpad rescue and recovery backups. Sometimes those settings are set to automatically backup.

Yes, you need both of those.

Your hard drive is partitioned, meaning separated into many parts. Drive C is for Windows, Drive D (look in My Computer) is for your photos, videos and all that. C is intentionally small, making D bigger - D is safer to keep your files in.

    Hi mullenbooger,

Thanks for your reply. How do I delete them and change my settings?

I'm assuming you are using vista.

To delete windows vista restore points, go to my computer, right click on your drive, click disk cleanup, go to more options tab, and then clean up restore point and shadow copies. Keep in mind this will delete all of your windows restore points, so if something messes up in your computer you can't just roll back anymore. I usually delete this since I backup semi-regularly on an external drive, so it doesn't really effect me. I think there is a way to delete certain restore points, so that way you can leave one or two, but I don't know how to do that.

For thinkpad rescue and recovery, try pressing your thinkvantage button, and go to thinkpad rescue and recovery (or backup). You should be able to find something in there. I uninstalled my rescue and recovery and don't remember how to do it.

the thinkvantage rescue and recovery should have an option to schedule backups, just change it.

Windows, not sure. I usually just delete the restore points once a month. Never know when you might need one

    How much space you recover?
